Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is the most recent entry in the critically acclaimed Jedi Knight series. Forge your weapon and walk the path of the Jedi. Play the part of a brand-new pupil eager to study the Jedi Teachings from Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. As you confront the ultimate decision of whether to fight for freedom and good on the light side or take the road of power and evil to the dark side, interact with well-known Star Wars characters in various iconic Star Wars settings.
The player character is a Force-user with access to several Force powers in addition to their Lightsaber in both single-player and multiplayer (s). Influences from the Star Wars world include push, pull, jump, heal, lightning, and other skills. Each Force power has three ranks, increasing the power's effectiveness. They are divided into core, Light Side, and Dark Side categories. Players can rank up their capabilities in single-player or multiplayer, giving a Level of customisation. The player has a "force metre" during gaming, which drains when powers are utilised and fills up while no powers are being used.
The use of lightsabers is heavily emphasised at the Jedi Academy. The player can make a custom lightsaber by picking a hilt and one of five blade colours. The player is given the option to select a new lightsaber fighting style after completing the first few missions (quick or "strong"), and they are free to alternate between that style and the default "medium" style at any time. Later in the game, the player has the option to learn the third fighting style, master the use of two swords, and wield a "sabre staff" resembling the double-ended Lightsaber Darth Maul wielded in The Phantom Menace, which also adds a kicking ability not available with any other lightsaber, or use all three of these fighting techniques. Each of the various sabres and fighting techniques has distinctive movements, weaknesses, and strengths. When using dual blades, the player can deactivate the second sabre and adopt the "Fast"-style single-sabre posture; likewise, when employing a sabre staff, the player can deactivate one of the blades in the "Medium"-style single-bladed sabre stance.
