Feral Wretches

Feral Wretches are among the first enemies players encounter in Gears of War: E-Day. Unlike the more familiar Wretches from previous Gears games, these early versions are not heavily armored. They are presented as fast, aggressive creatures used by the Locust as shock troops.

They attack in large numbers and can quickly overwhelm players who stay exposed for too long. Their introduction is meant to make the beginning of the Locust invasion feel more like a monster attack.

Armored Wretches

As the campaign progresses, players encounter more developed versions of the Wretches. Armored Wretches are tougher and have a dangerous scream that can disorient players and limit their actions. This makes them more than simple melee attackers and gives them a specific role during combat encounters.

Locust Drones

Drones are the backbone of the Locust army and become one of the main enemies in Gears of War: E-Day. They are much more dangerous than the creatures players initially encounter. Drones can use weapons, take cover, retreat, and flank players. Some Drones also have specialized weapons and tougher combat behavior.

Their introduction is an important part of the GOW E-Day campaign because Marcus, Dom, and the other characters slowly realize that the creatures attacking them are not simply wild monsters. They are organized soldiers capable of using weapons and tactics.

Locust Boomers

Boomers return as some of the biggest heavy enemies in Gears of War: E-Day. They are large, heavily armed Locust units that can absorb significant amounts of damage. Their heavy weapons can dominate an area and force players to change their position. E-Day also gives Boomers new combat interactions. When their health is low, they can be executed with the Lancer chainsaw, allowing coordinated players to finish them faster.

Seeders

Seeders are another returning Locust threat. They are known for launching Nemacyst, which makes them dangerous from a distance. In Gears of War: E-Day, Seeders also work as mini-boss encounters. Players need to get close to a Seeder and force it out of its protected position before attacking its exposed weak point. This makes fighting them different from a normal Locust firefight.

Reavers

Reavers are large Locust creatures that can change the flow of a battle. In E-Day, they can act as troop transports, bringing Drones into combat. If they remain on the battlefield, they can also function as heavily armed threats. Reavers can move around the environment, climb high walls, and attack from above. This gives them a different role from ground-based Locust units.

Brumaks

Brumaks are among the largest enemies players will face. The Coalition has confirmed that E-Day features Brumaks, including heavily armored versions. Their appearance also represents how the scale of the invasion grows during the campaign. Early in the story, the Locust seem like a collection of strange creatures. As players encounter enemies such as Drones and eventually Brumaks, it becomes clear that the attack is actually a massive organized invasion.

Scorched Legion

The Scorched Legion is an elite Locust force connected to Vraahk. These enemies are designed to represent the brutality of Vraahk and his forces. Their appearance and behavior make them more dangerous than regular Locust troops. The Coalition has described the Scorched Legion as Vraahk’s elite units, with their brutal appearance reflecting the character and his role in the invasion.

New Creatures From the Hollow

Gears of War: E-Day is not only bringing back familiar Locust enemies. The Coalition has also confirmed new creatures from the Hollow. These creatures have been enslaved by the Locust and unleashed on the surface of Sera. This gives E-Day a chance to introduce enemies that players have not seen in previous Gears games while keeping the Locust at the center of the threat.

How the Enemies Change Through the Campaign

One of the most interesting parts of GOW E-Day is how the enemy threat develops alongside the story. At the beginning, players mainly deal with Feral Wretches. They appear more like wild creatures than soldiers. Then the Drones arrive. Players discover that the Locust can use weapons, communicate, and work together. Later, larger and more dangerous enemies appear, including Boomers, Seeders, Reavers, and Brumaks. The campaign therefore moves from a small-scale monster attack toward a full-scale war.

Summary

Gears of War: E-Day brings back many familiar Locust enemies while redesigning how they behave in combat. Feral Wretches, Drones, Boomers, Seeders, Reavers, and Brumaks all play different roles, while the Scorched Legion and new Hollow creatures add further threats. The enemy progression is also important to the story. Players experience the invasion in a similar way to Marcus and Dom, starting with strange creatures and gradually discovering that they are facing an organized army.
