Product description

The Town of Light (PC) - Steam - Digital Code

The Town of Light

12 March 1938. Renée, a 16-year-old girl, is taken out of her environment, imprisoned, and deprives of everything.

Her one flaw was that she didn't understand where she fit in the world.

The police headquarters declared her to be "A danger to herself and others and a cause of public scandal." The only terrifying thing in this game is the truth, which hits you much harder in the solar plexus than any ghostly presence ever could.

A psychological quest narrated in the first person, The Town of Light. The story takes place in an area that actually existed and has been painstakingly recreated in Italy during the first half of the 20th century. By exploring and interacting with the surroundings, you will experience the main character's conflicted perspective on her past, and depending on your decisions, the plot will unfold in many ways.

The game is exclusively meant for adult users due to its content.

Gameplay

The scariest, most unsettling scenes in horror games occasionally serve to remind us of our realities. A scene from the Volterra asylum, a notorious Italian mental hospital closed down for abusing inmates, is described in The Town of Light. The scene was so meticulously researched that it may have actually happened.

The team assembled letters, accounts, and other published materials to create the bleak tale of a young woman named Renee who was admitted to Volterra in the 1930s, despite the fact that the story itself is fictional. Renee was a student there at the time. As we follow her in the present around the abandoned hospital, we gradually realise the horrors she went through there.

The Town of Light appears to be a rather simple story game with exploring serving as the primary gameplay mechanic, much like Gone Home. In the dilapidated Volterra asylum, which unlocks itself in stages as various facets of Renee's past are unearthed, players are given minimal guidance but have a wealth of stories to uncover. As she recalls the events of her imprisoned life in the asylum, her story is revealed as the player looks at documents, items, rooms, and other sentiments.
