Gameplay
 
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter's gameplay is relatively simple, consisting entirely of players trying to destroy dozens of enemies at once in an open arena-like space. Through the Game's menu system and his brain implant called NETRISCA, which also provides suggestions, descriptions of enemy types, and information about the weapons the player has collected, the Game's story motivates how the player moves from chapter to chapter. Plot
 
In the past, a large-scale war was fought on Earth between Sirius, a race of technologically superior humanoid aliens, and Mental, evil aliens who seek to control all life in the universe. The Sirians were eventually defeated but left a trail of advanced technology. It was later discovered by humans in the early 21st century and used to develop technology allowing human civilizations to explore other galaxies and establish multiple interstellar colonies. Mental appears out of nowhere in 2220 and leads his massive army of aliens from world to planet, wiping out all colonies along the way until he reaches Earth. The ancient Sirian relic "Time Lock".
