Product description
Begin with a single city in the Ancient Age, gather resources, create an infrastructure, conduct technological research, build world wonders like the Pyramids and the Eiffel Tower, and then increase your military power by capturing enemy countries with bombers, battleships, and tanks—all during your lunch break!
Rise of Nations includes:
- 18 Nations, each with distinct military forces and specific skills.
- More than a hundred military units are active on land, at sea, and in the air, including Hoplites, Frigates, and Helicopters.
- With renovations and innovations, more than two dozen buildings will transform your country from a modest city to an Information Age society.
- The Terra Cotta Army, the Taj Mahal, and the Eiffel Tower are among the 14 Wonders of the World. Each bestows unique benefits to your country.
- More than a dozen map styles, from the Nile Delta to the Himalayas to the Amazon Rainforest.
- Campaign Conquer the World is a networked collection of numerous scenarios.
Gameplay
The idea of "territory" is at the heart of Rise of Nations' gameplay. Players are only permitted to build in their territory or an ally's territory, the area around their settlements (except the Lakota). A nation's frontiers can be widened by building new towns and fortifications, developing a technological tree, and gaining access to specific rare resources. Enemy units within a country's boundaries suffer attrition over time due to other technology and resources, which might kill an invading force that isn't supplied.
Regardless of how that nation fared in history, any game's nations can be played in any era. There are 4 to 8 unique troops for each of the 18 civilizations in Rise of Nations. Some special units are based on the kinds of things that countries might have had, had they not been wiped out. For instance, the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas of North America have special modern and informational era units that mirror real-world Iberian-South American guerrillas. The four possible outcomes are capture, territorial superiority, surprise win, or score triumph.
Multiplayer Mode
GameSpy once hosted the game on their servers, but they no longer do so. People connected to the same network can play together thanks to the LAN networking featured on both platforms. Direct-IP connectivity enables players who are not connected to a network to connect without the need for GameSpy. There is no support for cross-platform gaming between Windows and Mac users.
