<h3>Gameplay</h3>
 
In the Jagged Alliance games, mercenary groups are strategically controlled on and off the field to carry out various tasks, such as liberating nations from repressive rulers. The games combine role-playing, 4X (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate) themes, and turn-based battle simulation.
 
The series is known for its humorous character comments. Individual mercenaries have characteristics that range from somewhat quirky to disturbed. It contrasts with the Game's setting, which is usually strongly related to death and conflict.
 
Each soldier is a unique person with unique characteristics. The freedom the player had to choose a versatile squad to win the match in several ways was part of the plan. Not all teams would function; for instance, Ivan and his nephew Igor, who get along well, are despised by the Polish bodybuilder Steroid. Danish markswoman "Buns" despises "Fox," a doctor with magazine-ready looks. On the other hand, Fox likes working with "Grizzly," with whom she has a slight infatuation.

In the games of the Jagged Alliance, the player must preserve a certain amount of reputation. A player's reputation will suffer if they lose soldiers to enemy fire, frequently employ and fire staff, or act callously (refusing to pay for the return of dead mercenaries' bodies). A lousy player's reputation impacts all mercenaries. Mercenaries could demand a significant wage increase before agreeing to work for the player. They might leave if the player doesn't covertly provide their mercenaries with a bonus. And only mercs in dire need of work will consent to work for genuinely infamous gamers.
