Product description

Filament (PC / Linux) - Steam - Digital Code

Overview

In the completely narrated puzzle game Filament, players must solve a series of cable-based puzzles while exploring what appears to be an abandoned spaceship.

There is truth in the world. Somewhere.

Board One of The Filament Corporation's premier research vessels, The Alabaster, attempts to recover control from a strange issue that left the ship shut down and its crew gone.

Discover what happened to the crew and why they vanished by solving fiendishly challenging puzzles with the assistance of Juniper, the ship's afflicted pilot.

Challenge yourself to get on the Alabaster, then challenge yourself to get off in this challenging yet incredibly addicting single-player game.

Gameplay

The gameplay focuses on a top-down view of the ship as you explore and move around as Pluto, lovingly named by Juniper. The ship is a decent size, with three levels and about twenty rooms. Starting out on the ship, you can very much wander wherever, which is liberating and a wonderful change of pace. Additionally, you can nearly always choose the sequence in which you solve the game's puzzles. Around the ship, there are anchor-shaped pods that serve as your puzzle terminals. If they flash white, no puzzles in that anchor have been solved; if they glow yellow, at least one has been solved; and if they glow green, the anchor has been completed.

Because they haven't yet received power, offline anchors are dark. They do so by finishing the previous anchor that is connected to them by a long wire. The only actual restriction on the kind of problems that can and cannot be solved at any given time is this. The rest is up to you; feel free to explore and solve in any sequence. Simply find another anchor if you get trapped, then return later.

Major Highlights

  • Explore the ship at will while resolving more than 300 difficult and interesting riddles. You can approach them whenever you choose, almost in any order.
  • You'll stay in touch with Juniper as you explore the ship and work out challenges. She opens up to you about herself, her crew, and what happened.
  • In your search for the truth about what transpired aboard The Alabaster, look through crew logs, messages, records, and personal effects and trinkets located around the ship. Discover the crew's identity and, perhaps, the reason for their departure.

Even though there are about 300 riddles, they all adhere to the same fundamental idea. One or more robots that are linked to a level's starting point are under your control. The tether must hit the light pillars on each level in order for them to be turned on. You can leave after the exit opens and all of the light pillars are powered up. The egress must remain open, hence the pillars must remain powered.
