The universe is over. There isn't a chance. No fresh start. Only the living. In the wake of an event that annihilated life on Earth in the 1980s, Randall Wayne travels around Seattle in DEADLIGHT as he searches for his family. You'll be forced to run, jump, climb, and struggle for your life in this breathtaking cinematic survival platformer as you seek out answers and the people you love.
Gameplay
Randall Wayne, the player character in the 2.5D sidescrolling cinematic platformer/horror game Deadlight, can walk from left to right and right to left, but he cannot explore any places on the aligned path.
- The character can move in many ways, including walking, running, crouching, rolling, jumping, long jumping, wall jumping, scaling fences and ladders, hanging from wires, pushing and pulling specific items, and engaging in context-sensitive tasks like using switches and inspecting bodies.
- Platforming and puzzle-solving are the main game mechanics used by Wayne to navigate through the numerous "Shadows" (zombies) that are afoot in Seattle's streets. The stages are constructed to encourage players to stay as far away from Shadows as they can, as opposed to fighting them.
- When fighting is unavoidable, the player can utilise a flaming axe to make close-quarters melee assaults, drain stamina, or later, a revolver and then a shotgun, but both have very little ammo. Additionally, the player obtains access to a slingshot. This, however, is intended to solve riddles and cannot be utilised in combat.
- Only a few times in the game is combat necessary; for the most part, the focus is on evading and outsmarting Shadows. The "taunt" feature, which enables Wayne to call to Shadows and lead them into dangerous environments like chasms or exposed electricity, is one way to accomplish this.
Storyline
Beginning on July 4, 1986, a hundred and forty-five days after "Patient Zero," the game is played in Seattle. A virus that reanimates the dead and transforms them into what the survivors regard as "Shadows" has nearly destroyed society. Since he and his wife Shannon and daughter Lydia have been apart for some time, Randall Wayne, a park ranger from Hope, British Columbia, Canada, has travelled to Seattle in search of the last known "Safe Point" in the Pacific Northwest. He is joined by Ben Parker, another park ranger, who is convinced that his family is present at the Safe Point.
