Critics gave Dead Island: Riptide a lukewarm review, claiming that it neither improved upon nor added everything new to the action of its predecessor. Dead Island 2, the series' third Game and the first official sequel was unveiled at E3 2014. It was initially scheduled for production in 2016, but when the project was transferred from Yager Production to Sumo Digital in 2016, the Game reached development hell. 2019 saw another move in the development of Dead Island 2, this time to Dambuster Studios, a Deep Silver internal company. As of right present, the Game's release date is set for February 3, 2023.
