The third-person action-adventure game Tomb Raider: Anniversary follows Lara Croft's initial, genre-defining journey as she travels the world searching for the fabled Scion relic. The graphics, technology, and physics of Lara Croft's Quest to find the mysterious item known only as the Scion are up to date with today's technology standards using an improved "Tomb Raider: Legend" Game engine, giving players a brand-new gameplay experience. Anniversary is a reimagined version of the original game that features a dynamic, fluid, and quick Lara Croft, vast settings with breathtaking visuals, extreme action, a fast-paced game, and an improved and clarified original plot.

Storyline

The mercenary Larson, a hired gun for wealthy businesswoman Jacqueline Natla, approaches British explorer and archaeologist Lara Croft. Natla employs Lara to locate the Scion of Atlantis, a prehistoric artefact that Lara's father, Richard Croft, had previously sought after. In the lost city of Vilcabamba, it is interred in the tomb of the Atlantean king Qualopec. Lara finds three pieces of the Scion that have been split across Atlantis' Triumvirate while navigating Vilcabamba to get to Qualopec's tomb. As she emerges from the grave, Larson, who Natla has dispatched to take Lara's Scion fragment, confronts her. After defeating him in combat, he explains that Natla has sent her adversary Pierre Dupont to retrieve the following component.

Gameplay

In addition to crawling through tight areas and swinging from horizontal and vertical poles, Lara can jump, climb and shimmy along ledges, upright bars, and ladders. Additional skills include the ability to interact with items and switches, use a grappling hook to latch onto specific rings for environment exploration, puzzle solving, and swim and dive underwater for a brief period. In the single-player action-adventure game Tomb Raider: Anniversary, the player takes control of Lara Croft over fourteen levels spread across four different global settings while viewing the action from a third-person perspective.
