The action-adventure video game Assassin's Creed, developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft, is the first instalment in the Assassin's Creed series set in fictional history of the real-life events that took place during the third Crusade in the Holy land in 1191.
The main character of the game is a modern-day man-Desmond Miles, who relives the genetic memories of his ancestor, Altair Ibn-La'Ahad, through a machine called "Animus."
Assassin's Creed gives the players the thrill of leaping into history and reliving pivotal moments of the past.
A millennia-old struggle between two factions emerges about through the plot device. The assassin brotherhood, inspired by the real-life order of assassins, fights for peace and free will. In contrast, the Knight's templar military orders inspire the Templar order, which tries to maintain stability through hierarchy and control.
The factions fight to gain an advantage for the powerful artefacts of mysterious origin known as "pieces of Eden."
Key Features:
- The gameplay focuses on using Altaïr's combat, parkour abilities, and stealth to explore the environment and defeat enemies.
- In addition, the game features counter-based hack and slash combat and "social stealth" (the ability to use crowds of people and the atmosphere to hide from enemies).
- The game has an open world consisting of various locations of the Holy Land, primarily the cities of Masyaf, Acre, Damascus, and Jerusalem, all perfectly recreated to suit the game's period.
While the game mainly revolves around a simulation based on Altair's memories, the player's potential is checked every once in a while by forcing them out of the Animus to play as Desmond in the modern-day. In this, the character is restricted to a single room as a shady corporation, Kidnaps Desmond looking for specific information within Altair's memories.
