Shape of Dreams Traveler Tier List: All 9 Characters Ranked
Every Traveler in Shape of Dreams can clear the game with the right build and a bit of luck. The difference lies in how often they do it. This Shape of Dreams character tier list ranks all nine Travelers by how consistently they survive Nightmare, especially the explosive and teleporting enemies of Stage 3.

| Tier | Traveler | Role | Difficulty | Why It Ranks Here |
| S | Bismuth | Ranged mage | Very easy | Her book attacks on its own, so you can focus fully on dodging |
| S | Mist | Melee attacker | Hard | Two dodges, three Flèche charges and Parry make her the hardest Traveler to hit |
| S | Aurena | Melee support | Very hard | Heals herself with every hit and heals the team, broken with Clemency |
| A | Lacerta | Ranged attacker | Easy | Steady fire damage with almost no setup, the best Traveler to learn on |
| A | Nachia | Ranged support | Medium | Fenrir and her Leaf Hounds tank and deal damage for her |
| A | Yubar | Ranged mage | Medium | Huge burst through Tranquility and Undo, held back by a single dodge |
| A | Cetus | Ranged frost tank | TBA | The new v1.4 Traveler who shields the whole team and controls space |
| B | Vesper | Melee tank | Medium | Tanky and forgiving early, but too slow for Stage 3 Nightmare |
| B | Shell | Melee attacker | Very hard | Sky high ceiling, but he needs the right drops and perfect timing |
S-Tier Travelers
The S tier holds the best characters in Shape of Dreams right now. These three Travelers win runs on their own, with strong base kits that work across many builds and tools that keep you alive when Nightmare throws everything at you. If you have them unlocked, start here. Check out all the Travelers in this tier:

- Bismuth: The safest damage dealer in the game. Her passive, Prismatic Vision, gives her a magic book that attacks the nearest enemy by itself, so your only job is to keep moving. Stack attack speed with Arrow Storm and Shadow Overdrive, put sustain Essences on Pure Soul, and she melts bosses from a safe distance. The v1.3 update trimmed Distorted Mind’s damage, yet she still sits on top. Just remember that she has the lowest health in the roster and zero armor, so one bad dodge hurts.
- Mist: The Traveler for players who hate dying. She starts unlocked, carries two charges of Swift Steps, gets three Flèche dashes, and can swap in Parry for a short window of total immunity. That toolkit makes her the best answer to the teleporting and exploding enemies in Stage 3. Pair her with Arrow Storm and Frostbite for damage, and try Paranoia on Flèche for an autopilot build that dashes back at whatever hits you.
- Aurena: A battle healer who spends her own health to fight. Her Dismantling Claw passive heals her on every hit and doubles against bosses, while Golden Explosion and Dangerous Theory deal big damage at the cost of her life force. With Essence of Clemency she becomes close to unkillable. She is the hardest S tier pick to learn, but she is also the best Traveler for co op since her healing covers the whole party.

A-Tier Travelers
These Travelers are strong, reliable, and fully able to clear Nightmare. Each one simply has a clear weakness, a slower start, or a positioning demand that keeps them one step behind the S tier. A single buff could push any of them to the top of the Shape of Dreams tier list. Check out all the Travelers in this tier:

- Lacerta: The cleanest learning pick in the game. The former Royal Guard sniper starts unlocked and is labeled Easy for a reason. Grab Incendiary Rounds with the Salamander Powder passive and you get strong fire damage without any special setup. He lacks the defensive tricks of the S tier, so you need to use his dodges well once Stage 3 starts.
- Nachia: A one woman army. Moonlight Pact summons Fenrir the werewolf, Sylvan Call adds Leaf Hounds, and the summons soak up hits while dealing steady damage. The v1.3 update cut the Leaf Hounds’ armor, and in v1.4 the Master of Dream’s Chain Lightning now jumps toward summons, so that fight got a little harder. She still climbs higher in co op.
- Yubar: The god of stars and the biggest burst caster in the roster. Tranquility makes him invulnerable while cutting all other cooldowns, and Undo loops it for nonstop magic nukes. The v1.3 update gave Ether’s Influence better single target damage and let Supernova grant a dodge charge, which is why he climbed from older lists. His single dodge, Flicker, still makes Stage 3 risky, so look for Burrow.
- Cetus: The brand new frost tank from v1.4. Dealing cold damage builds up to five Cold Blood stacks, and his next attack cashes them in for a frost burst and a shield. Embrace the Chill creates a growing frost zone that shields allies and stuns enemies when it ends, while Back Off coats nearby allies in ice for armor and knocks enemies away. He is already excellent in team runs. This is an early placement, so he may climb as players learn his best builds.
B-Tier Travelers
The B tier is not where weak Travelers go to die. These two are viable, fun, and capable of great runs. They just ask more from your build, your timing, or your luck than everyone above them. Check out all the Travelers in this tier:

- Vesper: The ruthless inquisitor with the most starting health in the game. He is beginner friendly, and his hammer steamrolls Stages 1 and 2. The trouble starts in Stage 3, where fast enemies punish his lack of mobility. The v1.3 buffs to Discipline and El’s Mercy helped him a lot, and the Hysteria plus Glacial Core combo turns him into a self healing blender. He moves closer to A tier in an organized team.
- Shell: The wooden doll assassin with the highest skill ceiling in the game. His One Step, One Kill passive turns bonus attack speed into attack damage, and Annihilation Stance unleashes sword waves for huge burst. He needs Swift Slash, plenty of sustain, and specific Essences to work, which makes his runs swing between amazing and miserable. An expert Shell can beat this placement, but most players will struggle.
How to Unlock Every Traveler in Shape of Dreams
Only two Travelers are available from the start. Most of the others unlock through progress that carries across runs, while a few need you to finish a task inside a single run. Here is how to unlock all characters in Shape of Dreams:
| Traveler | How to Unlock | Type |
| Lacerta | Available from the start | Starter |
| Mist | Available from the start | Starter |
| Bismuth | Keep any Traveler’s movement speed above 900 for 3 seconds | Single run |
| Yubar | Collect 450 Dream Dust in total | Across runs |
| Vesper | Reach the Fragment of the Starry Sky | Progress |
| Nachia | Defeat the Demon of the Forest 12 times | Across runs |
| Aurena | Heal yourself or allies for 25,000 health in total | Across runs |
| Shell | Find the hidden souls in the forest world and breathe life into the wooden doll | Single run |
| Cetus | Dig through 8 snow piles in the snowy mountains | Single run |
Bismuth is the smartest first unlock since she sits in S tier and only needs one speed spike. Stack movement speed Essences like Quicksilver or Memories like Shadow Overdrive and the counter fills quickly. For Cetus, sweep the edges of every snowy map since the piles are small and easy to miss. Very few players have his unlock achievement so far.
Shape of Dreams Memory Tier List
Memories are the active skills you equip in your four slots. Some belong to a single Traveler, while the general pool can be picked up by anyone during a run. Traveler specific Memories are covered in the build table further down.

| Shadow Walk | Common | Dash and fire dark shards at nearby enemies. Decent extra mobility, but it pulls you toward danger |
| Spinning Whirlwind | Common | Spinning area damage that speeds up with attack speed. Great only in attack speed builds |
| Starfall | Common | Four falling stars on random enemies. Easy early damage that fades later |
| Backstep | Common | Jump back and leave stunning bombs behind. A safe escape and a stun in one button |
C-Tier Memories

What Changed in the Shape of Dreams v1.4 Starless Path Meta
Version 1.4, The Starless Path, went live on September 17, 2026 as the game’s first anniversary update and its biggest update so far. A follow up patch, v1.4.0, arrived on September 21 with fixes. Here is everything that matters for this Shape of Dreams tier list:
- Cetus joined the roster. The ninth Traveler is a ranged frost tank who shields himself and his team. He landed in A tier.
- The Way of Stars arrived. This expansion of Traveler Mastery links each Traveler’s episodes like a constellation, and progressing it opens a brand new ending called The Starless Path.
- Six shared Identity Memories. Every Traveler can now swap their own passive for one of six new common Identity Memories, so check that slot before your next run.
- New Memories, Essences and Stars. Six Memories, eight Essences and new Flexible Stars entered the pool.
- Harder bosses. From Ominous Dream difficulty and up, some world bosses now use stronger patterns.
- Summons got targeted. The Master of Dream’s Chain Lightning now prefers summons once it hits one, which hurts Nachia teams in that fight.
- Damage over time was capped. Stacking Mental Corruption on one target no longer speeds up its damage ticks.
- Co op spawns were capped. Monsters still spawn faster with more players, but from the second loop the number alive at once is limited.
- Balance pass. Memories, Essences and Traveler Stars were tuned to widen the range of good builds.
The v1.3 Dreams Grow Darker update also still shapes this tier list. It trimmed Bismuth’s Distorted Mind damage, buffed Yubar’s Ether’s Influence and Supernova, buffed Vesper’s Discipline and El’s Mercy, cut Nachia’s Leaf Hound armor, and raised the damage of Shell’s Annihilation Stance sword waves.
Shape of Dreams Co Op Tier List: Who Gets Better in a Team
Shape of Dreams supports four player online co op with crossplay between PC and consoles, and team play changes the order quite a bit. Here is how the picks shift when you squad up:
- Aurena: The biggest winner. Her healing covers the whole party, which makes her the best co op Traveler in the game.
- Cetus: His frost zones and ice coating protect everyone nearby, and Permafrost becomes a massive team ultimate in his hands.
- Nachia: Her summons hold enemy attention while teammates cover other angles. Just watch out for the Master of Dream’s Chain Lightning.
- Vesper: Baptism of the Sun forces nearby enemies to attack him, so he becomes a true frontliner with healers behind him.
- Bismuth: Still a top damage dealer, but her low health means she needs a tank in front.
- Wealth: Gold from this Essence is shared by all Travelers, so one player running it helps the whole squad.
Here is a balanced four player team to start with:
| Role | Best Pick | Backup Pick |
| Frontline | Cetus | Vesper |
| Healer | Aurena | Nachia |

Shape of Dreams Traveler Roles Explained
Struggling to clear Stage 3 even with a top tier pick? Your build might not match your Traveler’s role. Each Traveler carries a role label on the Traveler screen, and knowing it tells you which Memories to chase. Shape of Dreams roles are as follows:
- Ranged Attacker: Lacerta. Deals steady weapon damage from a distance and loves attack speed and fire Essences.
- Melee Attacker: Mist and Shell. Fast, mobile fighters who live and die by their dodges and burst windows.
- Ranged Mage: Bismuth and Yubar. Ability Power casters who melt rooms with Memories but have very little health.
- Support: Aurena and Nachia. Healers and summoners who keep themselves and the team alive while dealing solid damage.
- Tank: Vesper and Cetus. Durable Travelers who hold enemies in place, with Cetus doing it from range with frost and shields.
How We Crafted This Shape of Dreams Tier List
Every tier list Shape of Dreams players trust should state its rules first, so here are ours. We tracked the same factors for each pick before placing it in a tier:
- Solo Nightmare Consistency: How often a Traveler or Memory carries a solo run through Nightmare, where Stage 3 punishes every mistake.
- Survival Tools: Dodges, parries, shields, healing and invulnerability. Picks that keep you alive rank higher than picks that only hit hard.
- Build Flexibility: Travelers and Memories that work across many builds rank above those that need one exact combo.
- Patch Version: Every placement reflects v1.4 and the v1.3 balance changes that are still live.
- Co Op Value: We noted where a pick climbs or drops in team runs, since the best solo order is not always the best team order.
- Community Rankings: We cross checked our placements with community tier lists, solo Nightmare clears and early v1.4 testing, so this Shape of Dreams characters tier list matches how players are actually winning runs.
Shape of Dreams Tips for New Players
You do not need a perfect build to start winning. These simple habits will carry you further than any single pick:
- Unlock Bismuth first – She is S tier and only needs one run where your movement speed stays above 900 for three seconds.
- Learn on Lacerta – His ranged style teaches you spacing and dodging without needing a perfect early build.
- Always take Undo – It fits every Traveler and makes your best Memory come back faster.
- Grab Wealth early – More gold means more shop upgrades, and in co op the whole team shares it.
- Use Déjà Vu – Once you reach the Pure White Dream with a Memory or Essence, you can start future runs with it. Spectral Bullet is a great choice.
- Dismantle junk – Turn useless drops like Sneeze into Dream Dust, which also counts toward unlocking Yubar.
- Check your Identity slot – v1.4 added six shared Identity Memories, so your old passive may no longer be the best choice.

Yes. Cetus sits in A tier on our Shape of Dreams tier list as a ranged frost tank who shields allies, controls space with frost zones, and turns cold damage into burst through Cold Blood. He is especially strong in co op, and his placement may rise as players master him.
