Terraria lets you explore caves, build worlds, fight bosses, and survive with friends. But many players ask whether they can play with friends on different devices. Is Terraria cross platform? The short answer is yes, but crossplay is still limited.
PC and mobile players can play Terraria together on a local network or dedicated server if their game versions match. Console crossplay is not fully available yet, but Re-Logic is preparing the first phase of crossplay for the upcoming Terraria 1.4.6 update. The developers recently confirmed that they were finishing preparations for this update.
This guide covers everything you need to know about Terraria cross-platform multiplayer, crossplay, supported platforms, and cross-save.

Terraria Cross Platform/ Crossplay: Quick Overview
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and mobile.
- PC and Mobile Crossplay: Yes, through a compatible local network or dedicated server.
- Console Crossplay: Not fully available yet.
- Upcoming Crossplay: Planned for Terraria 1.4.6.
- Cross-Save: No official cross-save system.
- Crossplay Setup: May require the same game version, an IP address, and a port number.
Crossplay vs Cross-Platform vs Cross-Save
These terms are easy to confuse, so here is what each one means for Terraria.
- Cross-Platform: Terraria is available on different systems, including PC, consoles, and mobile.
- Crossplay: Players on different supported platforms can join the same world and play together.
- Cross-Save: Your character and world progress can transfer between different platforms.
Terraria is available on multiple platforms, but that does not mean every version can currently play together. Cross-save is also separate from crossplay.
Is Terraria Cross Platform?
Terraria supports limited cross-platform multiplayer, but full crossplay between PC, mobile, and consoles is not available yet. PC and mobile players can connect through a local network or dedicated server when their game versions are compatible. However, console players are still waiting for the first phase of the official crossplay rollout.
According to the official Terraria crossplay plan, crossplay is planned in two phases. Phase One will bring console players into cross-platform sessions through local networks and dedicated servers. Phase Two aims to make joining friends on different platforms and networks easier through session IDs or join codes.

Can You Play Terraria Crossplay on PC?
Yes. Terraria supports multiplayer between compatible desktop versions on Windows, macOS, and Linux. PC players can also connect to mobile players through a compatible local network or dedicated server. For this to work, everyone needs to use compatible game versions and the correct connection details.
Can PC and Mobile Players Play Terraria Together?
Yes. Terraria PC and mobile crossplay is already possible through a local network or dedicated server, provided the versions are compatible. For online play outside your local network, setting up a dedicated server or connecting through an IP address and port may be necessary. This can take some technical setup, especially if your network needs port forwarding.
Is Terraria Crossplay Between PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch?
Not yet through the planned official crossplay system. As of October 2026, console crossplay is still being prepared. Re-Logic and DR Studios plan to introduce it in phases, beginning with local-network multiplayer and dedicated server connections. Later, the developers aim to add a simpler way to join friends using session IDs or join codes.
Is Terraria Crossplay on Mobile?
Yes. Android and iOS players can play together using compatible versions of Terraria. Mobile players can also connect to PC-hosted worlds through a compatible local network or dedicated server. However, these connections may require more setup than standard multiplayer, particularly when playing over the internet.

How to Play Terraria With Friends on Different Platforms
The setup depends on which versions you and your friends use.
PC and Mobile
- Make sure everyone has a compatible version of Terraria.
- Connect all players to the same local network, or arrange a compatible dedicated server.
- Have the host start a multiplayer world or server.
- If joining through a server, enter the correct IP address and port.
- Join the same world and start playing.
Important: Internet connections outside your local network may require port forwarding or other network setup. Remote connections can be more complicated than playing over the same Wi-Fi network.
Console Crossplay
Console crossplay is still pending the official Phase One update. The developers plan to let console players join compatible sessions on other platforms through local networks and dedicated servers.

Will Terraria Get Full Crossplay in the Future?
Yes. Re-Logic and DR Studios have announced a plan to bring crossplay to Terraria in two phases.
Phase One: Cross-Platform Multiplayer
The first phase is planned to let console players connect to sessions on other platforms through a local network or dedicated server. This builds on crossplay functionality already available between PC, servers, and mobile.
Phase Two: Easier Cross-Network Multiplayer
The second phase aims to make crossplay more accessible. Players should be able to share a session ID or join code so friends can connect from different platforms and networks without as much technical setup.
Does Terraria Have Cross-Save?
No official cross-save or cross-progression system is currently available across PC, mobile, and consoles. For example, your Terraria character and inventory on PC will not automatically sync with your console character. Crossplay and cross-save are separate features, so being able to join a friend’s world does not mean your saved progress transfers between devices.
You may be able to move save files manually in some situations, but compatibility depends on the platforms and game versions. Always back up your characters and worlds before attempting a manual transfer.
The developers have acknowledged questions about cross-saves and cross-progression, but their current focus is on implementing crossplay.
