Battlefield Bad Company 2 is predominantly a squad-level first-person sharpshooter based in contemporary modern warfare. Also, the game has a single-player campaign, where the player re-assumes the role of Preston Marlowe, the original Game's protagonist. The Game's Frostbite 1.5 engine allows for destructible circumstances.

Bad Company 2 is set shortly during the fictitious Second Russo-American War between the U.S. and Russian Federation, the latter defending the fictional Latin AmericanMilitia, a revolutionary group serving in South America. 

The game will take you back to October 1944, when a group of U.S. commandos penetrated an Imperial Japanese Navy-controlled island in the Sea of Japan, a part of "Operation Aurora." They were securing a Japanese scientist working on a hidden scalar weapon and escaping the island on a submarine. As per the scientist's warning, the commandos detect the weapon firing and, after that, die from the resulting tsunami, sparking a myth within the U.S. Army.

•  Multiplayer maps, which permit five additional game modes, have a wide selection of motorcars, airliners and emplacements.
  
• Bad Company 2 heavily underscores destructible surroundings. Explosives can destroy large sections of most buildings, and some walls and fences break down under barrages of bullets.
  
• The game uses a "regenerating health" system rather than giving players health points as in the previous series. In multiplayer mode, the "Medic" kit now revs health regeneration rather than instantly restoring the player's health.
  
• Each assignment is split into a sequence of objectives, often threaded with cutscenes that affect war films' style.
  
• The campaign contains several assignments in which the player controls a motorcar or a weapon turret while a teammate controls the vehicle.
  
• Multiplayer mode is class-based, with four classes: Assault, Engineer, Medic, and Recon. Each class has a variety of exceptional weapons and kits and serves a specific combat role. 
  
• Players can select between four load-out kits that vary from the light machinegun toting medic to the heavy weapon specialist engineer. Each has its weapons and unique tools that let you set yourself up as a short but essential part of the team's success.
  
• The game has story narration where the player will get a real battlefield experience.
  
• Battlefield: Bad Company 2 features several game types: Conquest, Conquest, Rush, Squad Deathmatch, and Squad Rush.
