Kholat, a horror-themed exploration adventure game narrated by one of the most well-known British actors, Sean Bean, was inspired by the Dyatlov Pass incident, a real-life mystery involving the strange deaths of nine Russian hikers that generated a tonne of unproven theories. To discover what actually transpired, the player will be thrust into the endless scenery of the hostile Ural Mountains. In the course of events, you can encounter more rumours than you anticipated.
The Dyatlov Pass event actually took place in the winter of 1959. A trek to the northern Ural Mountains by nine expert mountaineers ended tragically. The expedition's crew members' bodies were discovered strewn across the Kholat Syakhl hillside.
Russian detectives declared the case closed, attributing the deaths to "a compelling unknown force."
The Key Features of Kholat:
- Difficult exploration
- Anticipated game length: 4 to 6 hours. Beautiful art design, an immersive exploration experience, complex music and noises, a tense atmosphere, and a self-written narrative based on real events
- Players will learn a lot of background plots in addition to the game's primary plot.
- Unreal Engine 4-powered non-linear, open-world in-game navigation using a map and compass
Before the player arrives in Ivdel via train and begins retracing the steps of the Dyatlov party, the game begins with a narrator outlining the specifics of the Dyatlov Pass Incident. They set out on their journey as the weather started to deteriorate and noticed bright orange footprints in the snow.
A large valley contains a variety of interesting places that the player can visit, including an abandoned church, a cosmodrome, various campgrounds, and an altar that is lit by totem pole-like torches. Along with being chased by aggressive, shadow-like monsters that must be avoided at all costs, they also start gathering a series of locations that lead them to additional information.
The player emerges from a tunnel, falls through a hole in the earth, and immediately wakes up on a mountainside close to a bivouac spot. When the player awakens, they discover a glowing crater with a meteorite inside, levitating boulders that resemble pillars and have luminous inscriptions, a bright orange light in the sky, and a number of glowing, humanoid people. The narrator follows their trails and finds numerous notes from Vitalij G., an investigator with the Russian Research Unit for Natural Phenomena (RRUNP), a strange man named Anton, and others, as well as news reports and top-secret government records.
