In the distant past, in a universe far, far away...
A new threat materialises as Luke Skywalker and the Rebel Alliance fight to defeat Darth Vader and the Empire. The Black Sun crime family leader, Dark Prince Xizor, desires to replace Darth Vader with the Emperor's side. He must kill Skywalker, the child, to accomplish that. It is your responsibility as Dash Rendar to defend Luke and assist the Alliance in defeating the villain Xizor. Beware of dangerous stormtroopers and notorious bounty hunters! Be blessed by the Force!
Key Features
- Discover what transpired between Star War: The Empire Strikes BackTM and Star War: Return of the Jedi in this compelling new storyline featuring fresh characters and settings.
- A range of vehicles and spaceships, including the massively armoured Outrider, snowspeeders, hovertrains, jet packs, and speeder bikes, are available in five gaming modes.
- Action-packed Star WarsTM locations, such as Hoth and Mos Eisley. New areas include the infamous Ord Mantel junkyards, Xizor's palace, Gall Spaceport, and the sewers of Imperial City.
Gameplay
Third-person shooting is the main gameplay style in Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. Dash Rendar, the protagonist, is controlled by players. After each shot, his blaster Pistol reloads, and he can pick up more powerups. Render gains a jetpack to cross wider gaps in later levels. At the sewer Level, the jetpack can also be utilised underwater. His health is finite. However, health packs may be found throughout the Game to restore it. A limited number of lives are granted to the player to finish the Game. Additional lives can be purchased, but a Game over sequence starts if the player runs from our lives. Each Level is timed, and you can earn up to three difficulty points by completing specific tasks or discovering secret tokens to access new areas.
Other non-shooter components are present in the Game. Render controls a snowspeeder in the first Level as he defends the Rebel base on Hoth. Render manoeuvres the Outrider's turret in 360-degree space combat to obliterate several adversary ships. In other space scenes, he controls the ship and fires the forward cannons to take out enemies. Render engages in a high-speed pursuit on swoop bikes in one location, preventing the swoop and attack from taking out an adversarial gang before reaching the target.
Plot
There are four chapters in the narrative. Before the Battle of Hoth, Dash Rendar and Leebo, his droid co-pilot, arrive at Echo Base to deliver supplies. It is where "Part I: Escape from Echo Base" begins. He briefly converses with Han Solo, who permits him to fly with Rogue Squadron for the time being. When the shield generator is damaged, Dash, flying a snow speeder, returns to Echo Base just as the Millennium Falcon takes off. To reach his ship, the Outrider, he moves through the base. When Dash returns to Leebo and The Outrider, they flee a Star Destroyer through an asteroid field after fighting an AT-ST and multiple wampas.
