Gameplay

The turn-based action-strategy Game XCOM: Enemy Unknown was created by Firaxis Games, the studio responsible for the hugely popular Civilization series. The Game updates the venerable UFO: Enemy Unknown/X-COM: UFO Defense and introduces a new generation to its stressful, tactical gameplay. At E3, XCOM: Enemy Unknown won 20 prizes, including the Game Critics Award for Best PC Game and Best Strategy Game, as well as the Best Strategy Game Awards from GameSpy and IGN.

Release dates for XCOM: Enemy Unknown in North America and other countries were October 9 and 12, respectively. Codes for the Elite Soldier Pack DLC were given away with Game pre-orders.

In XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the tactical turn-based gameplay first seen in XCOM: UFO Defense combines breathtaking over-the-shoulder action scenes and ground warfare.

Strategic Base: As you construct and grow your XCOM headquarters, manage your workforce, recruit, customize, and train special soldiers. You can also research novel and exotic technology.

Control soldier squads in tense turn-based ground combat in tactical combat. Investigate maps cloaked in the "fog of battle" to find and confront adversarial forces.

Plot

An unidentified enemy threatens them, and the nations of Earth band together to create the elite paramilitary group known as XCOM to stave off this extraterrestrial assault. By building a fully functional base, investigating alien technologies, organizing combat operations, and managing Army movement in combat, you, as the commander of XCOM, command the world defence squad in a conflict against a horrifying alien invasion.
