How Many Weapons Are in Mortal Shell 2?
Mortal Shell II has a total of 16 armaments, split evenly between 8 melee weapons and 8 sidearms. None of them are missable. If you skip past one during your main playthrough, you can always go back and grab it later, even during free roam after the final boss before starting New Game Plus. Collecting all 8 melee weapons ties into the Lord of War achievement, while grabbing every sidearm has its own separate collection achievement.
Here’s how everything is spread across the map:
- 2 items during the Prologue (1 weapon, 1 sidearm)
- 6 armaments in the region of Fainweald
- 8 armaments in the region of Mammon
Every weapon and sidearm can also be upgraded further at the Tarforge in Marrow Keep, so keep an eye on your coins and smithing materials as you collect gear.

Prologue: Iconoclast and Naylshotte
Your very first weapon and sidearm come as a package deal early in the Prologue, right when you unlock your first Shell, Harros.
Iconoclast (Weapon #1): A standard one-handed sword and your default starting weapon for the whole game.
Naylshotte (Sidearm #1): A shotgun-style sidearm that fires a spread of projectiles, great for close-range crowd control right from the start.
You’ll also pick up the Untarnished Seal at the same time, which lets you block incoming attacks. It’s not a weapon, but it’s worth knowing since it’s your very first defensive tool.
All Weapons and Sidearms in Fainweald

Fainweald holds six armaments in total. Most players will start from Widow’s Overlook, the region’s first fast travel beacon, so this list follows that general path outward.
Forgotten Crossbow (Sidearm #2): Found inside the Flooded Village dungeon. From Widow’s Overlook, follow the sloping path and cross the rope bridges leading to the lower crags. Watch for Spear Maidens and Toxic Cultists along the way. Look for a stone archway blocked by wooden boards, break through it, then head down into the tower. Flip the switch to raise the cage and ride the elevator down. The elevator collapses partway through, so be ready to fight your way out, especially against Toxic Stalkers that inflict poison. Push through to the house at the back of the pools to grab the Damp Key, then return and unlock the door to claim the Forgotten Crossbow.
Veteran’s Battle Axe (Weapon #2): Located inside The King’s Crypt dungeon. Follow the dirt path from the area where you unlock the Proxima Shell until you find a cavern entrance. Clear out the enemies inside and open the sarcophagus at the end to claim your prize. This is one of the more straightforward pickups on this list, no major boss required.
Axe & Dagger (Weapon #3): Requires the Chapel Key first, which you’ll find on a plateau near the Mushroom Village beacon. Once you have it, head back to the beacon and take a left toward a Grisha Hunter encampment, then use the key to unlock the nearby tower. Inside, you’ll need to solve three quick puzzle rooms. Face the pillar and walk backward to reveal a hidden passage, then strike the movable stone blocks until they land on the pressure plates, and finally defeat the Armored Knight guarding the last room to collect your reward.
Troubadour’s Lute (Sidearm #3): Tucked inside the One-Legged Wolf tavern in eastern Fainweald. You’ll need to collect and siphon enough Ova to cleanse a patch of corruption blocking your path north of the Mushroom Village Entrance beacon. Once inside the tavern, the lute is sitting right on the stage. It’s a genuinely fun early pickup since it causes confusion among enemies, letting you sit back and watch them turn on each other. While you’re there, don’t forget to unlock the Gragu Shell as well.
Salvaged Trebuchaxe (Sidearm #4): Your reward for clearing the Ravaged Hideout, a dungeon at the base of the hills just outside the Citadel of Penance. You’ll need to take down the Bloodcursed Lithopod boss to claim it, and defeating this boss also permanently opens the Citadel’s gates, so this stop does double duty.
Great Martyr’s Blade (Weapon #4): Found in the Martyr’s Prison dungeon, just outside the eastern walls of the Citadel of Penance. Interact with a mysterious coin pouch to get teleported into the prison area, then fight your way through the tight corridors to reach the weapon at the end.
All Weapons and Sidearms in Mammon
Mammon holds the remaining eight armaments, and this region generally takes longer to fully explore. This list moves from the initial area through the western and central sectors, then wraps up in the eastern and southern portions.
Obsidian Hammer (Weapon #5): Located inside the Obsidianite Mines. From the Outskirts of Mammon Beacon, head west until you find a quarry with a large pool of water, then drop in and enter the dungeon. Once inside, you’ll need to fall down a chasm, so land carefully on the ledges as you descend to avoid unnecessary damage. At the bottom, defeat the Prophet of Profane Infinites miniboss to claim this heavy sledgehammer.
Ballistazooka (Sidearm #5): One of the trickier sidearms to track down. It’s found in the Sentry’s Grave dungeon inside the Lonesome Spire, an area crawling with Ballista Head enemies that skewer you with ranged projectiles. At the end, you’ll face the Subjugated Guardian, a beefed-up version of those same enemies whose shots explode on impact. Rushing in close limits it to slower head slam attacks that are much easier to block and parry, so closing the distance quickly is your best bet here.
Triarch Repeater (Sidearm #6): Found deep inside the Blackwell Cavern. Head to the Castigator’s Keep beacon, then travel east-southeast along the cliffside path. Take the wooden lift down, circle the grassy field, and look for the cave entrance. The cavern itself is almost pitch black, so visibility is limited to just a few feet in front of you, meaning careful, slow navigation is the way to go here.
Cursed Child (Sidearm #7): Located at the Revered Beacon inside Sester’s Abbey, one of the more unique spots in the whole game. From the Sester’s Gate beacon, head to the courtyard where a Rollerball enemy patrols, then look over the edge of the walkway for a hidden ledge. Drop down and shoot the nearby bell to open a path, then continue into the lower section of the abbey. Watch for a massive tower structure with a searching spotlight, since getting caught in its glare will steadily drain your health. Use walls for cover and wait for it to pass, or even lure enemies into the light since it damages them too. At the very top, destroy the object there to claim the Cursed Child.
Axatana (Weapon #6): Follows a similar path to the Cursed Child early on. Drop down past the Rollerball enemy, but instead of heading into the abbey, turn left and use the jump gate to cross the ravine into the Forgotten Tower. From there, cross to the opposite side using a second jump gate, hit the switch near the metal door, and defeat the Dagger Sester enemy guarding the weapon.
Black Needle (Weapon #7): Also found within Sester’s Abbey, tied to cleansing the Sester’s Gate beacon. Push through the dungeon, shooting bells along the way to reveal new ledges, until you reach an arena-style area. This triggers the Twin Sester boss fight, one wielding a rapier and the other a bow. After both are defeated, a third enemy called the Stray Sester appears, and defeating her drops the Black Needle spear.
Clockwork Scythe (Weapon #8) and Caged Hystrix (Sidearm #8): The final two armaments in the game are found together. Head south-southeast of Castigator Keep and tag the Silent Steps Beacon along the way. Use the nearby jump gate to trigger a fight against a boss named Sariel. He’ll retreat once his health drops low enough, so follow him up the steps into the Chamber of Becoming and finish the fight there. Defeating Sariel a second time unlocks him as a playable Shell and drops the Clockwork Scythe. After watching a short memory sequence, grab the Caged Hystrix sidearm near the exit to wrap up your full weapon collection.
Tips for Efficient Weapon Hunting

- Tag every beacon you find: Beacons double as fast travel points and often sit right beside hidden paths or dungeon entrances holding a weapon or sidearm.
- Stock up on Ova before exploring further out: A few pickups, like the Troubadour’s Lute, require cleansing corruption first, so keep some Ova on hand rather than spending it all right away.
- Don’t skip miniboss fights: A good chunk of this list is tied to defeating a miniboss or boss rather than a simple pickup, so avoid running past optional fights if a weapon might be on the other side.
- Upgrade as you go: Every weapon and sidearm can be strengthened at the Tarforge in Marrow Keep. Don’t hoard materials waiting for a best weapon, upgrading something you actually enjoy using is usually the smarter move.
- Remember nothing is missable: If you’re worried about locking yourself out of a weapon by progressing the story, don’t be. You can return for anything you skipped, even after the final boss, right up until you start New Game Plus.
Why Weapon Variety Matters in Mortal Shell 2
Mortal Shell II leans hard into variety rather than one weapon clearly outclassing the rest. Some armaments favor fast, aggressive strings, others hit slower but harder, and several sidearms lean more into utility and crowd control than raw damage. If you’re still getting comfortable with the game’s combat systems, our guide on tips and tricks before playing Mortal Shell II breaks down how hardening, Seals, and Resolve management tie directly into which weapons will actually feel good in your hands.
