All Marvel’s Wolverine Villains Revealed: Antagonists, Factions & More
1. Bolivar Trask (Antagonists)
Bolivar Trask is Marvel’s Wolverine mian villain. He’s a billionaire industrialist who sees mutants as a danger to humanity, and he funds and commands the entire operation to hunt them down.
Trask doesn’t fight Wolverine himself. Instead, he sends in the Reavers, deploys Sentinel robots, and uses ability inhibitor tech that can shut off a mutant’s powers, including Wolverine’s healing factor. Early hands-on previews show him capturing and shooting Nathaniel Essex, Team X’s own leader, which kicks off the game’s central conflict.

2. Nathaniel Essex (Mister Sinister) (Antagonists)
This is the biggest villain reveal so far, and it’s a bit of a spoiler, so skip to the next section if you want to go in blind. Nathaniel Essex, voiced by Troy Baker, is the mutant who founded Team X and recruited Wolverine, Sabretooth, Mystique, and Sunfire. For most of the game, he looks like one of the good guys, mentoring Logan and trying to protect mutants from Trask.
Comic fans will know Essex by another name, though: Mister Sinister, one of the X-Men’s most dangerous villains. Insomniac hasn’t spelled this out directly, but the story trailer, the prequel comic, and multiple hands-on previews all point the same way. Essex is set up to become the game’s true final villain.

Major Villains
3. Omega Red
Omega Red (Arkady Rossovich) is a Russian mutant and one of the very first villains Insomniac confirmed, appearing all the way back in the first trailer. He fights with retractable carbonadium tentacles that drain the life force out of anyone they wrap around.
In the game, Omega Red has sided with Trask and is hunting down his old Team X teammates, including Wolverine and Sabretooth. That history makes their fight personal instead of a random supervillain encounter.

4. Lady Deathstrike
Lady Deathstrike (Yuriko Oyama) is confirmed as one of the game’s major boss fights. She’s a cyborg with an adamantium skeleton and claws to match Wolverine’s own, and in this game she leads the Hand.
The story trailer shows her wielding a glowing blade that looks like it could cut through adamantium itself, which would make her one of the few enemies able to seriously hurt Logan.

Enemy Factions
5. The Reavers
The Reavers are Trask’s private army: mercenaries who’ve had their bodies enhanced with cybernetics. Their job is simple. Track mutants down and deliver them to Trask. Expect to fight large groups of Reavers throughout the game, especially around Madripoor.
6. The Hand
The Hand is an ancient ninja organization dressed in their signature red. Wolverine fights them throughout the game, especially during the Tokyo sections, and their leader is Lady Deathstrike. The story hints at a deeper, older history between Wolverine and the Hand, so expect this to be more personal than a standard ninja gauntlet.
7. The Sentinels
The Sentinels are giant mutant-hunting robots built with Trask’s money and technology, staying true to their comic book origins. Hands-on previews describe a fight against a “Sentinel Prototype” as one of the toughest set pieces shown so far, one that tests everything Wolverine has learned up to that point.

Other Confirmed Enemies
8. Ogun
Ogun is a deeper cut for newer fans, but comic readers will recognize him as one of Wolverine’s oldest enemies: a ninja sorcerer who trained Logan in Japan before turning on him. Insomniac has confirmed Ogun will be in the Marvel’s Wolverine game, which fits neatly with the Hand and Tokyo storylines.

Team X: Uneasy Allies, Not Quite Villains
Sabretooth and Mystique show up in a lot of villain roundups for this game, but that’s not quite right for how the story actually starts. Both are founding members of Wolverine’s own team, Team X, so they’re fighting alongside Logan, not against him, at least for now.
9. Sabretooth
Sabretooth (Victor Creed) is Wolverine’s classic arch-enemy, but at the start of the game he’s on Logan’s side. He reluctantly teams up with Wolverine and Mystique to rescue Essex from Trask. Previews describe the relationship as toxic and tense, with the two constantly needling each other, so don’t be surprised if that alliance breaks down before the credits roll.

10. Mystique
Mystique (Raven Darkholme) rounds out Team X alongside Wolverine and Sabretooth. She’s a shapeshifter who’s rarely fully trustworthy in the comics, and this version doesn’t look any different. She’s fighting on Wolverine’s side for now, but her loyalty has always come with conditions.

Other Characters in Marvel’s Wolverine Game
A few more names show up in the Insamiac’s Wolverine game who aren’t enemies at all. Jean Grey is a telekinetic mutant who becomes an ally after Trask captures her. Sunfire is revealed in the prequel comic as a founding Team X member. Leech is one of the kidnapped mutants Wolverine sets out to rescue. And Tyger Tiger, played by Kelly Hu (who fans may remember as Lady Deathstrike in the 2003 film X2), runs the Princess Bar in Madripoor, one of Logan’s regular haunts.
