Respawn Modes

Respawn modes let players return to the fight after being eliminated. These are some of the fastest and most familiar multiplayer modes in Call of Duty.

  • Team Deathmatch returns as a classic team-based mode where players compete to get the most eliminations.
  • Domination is an objective mode where teams capture and hold locations around the map to earn points.
  • Hardpoint has teams fighting for control of a moving objective. Players need to rotate around the map as the Hardpoint changes location.
  • Kill Confirmed adds an extra objective to eliminations. Players must collect enemy tags after getting a kill to score for their team.
  • Free for All removes teams completely. Every player fights for themselves, making positioning and awareness especially important.

Modern Warfare 4 also adds three new Respawn modes: Counter Attack, Inflation, and Hijack. These modes introduce new rules and objectives but will not have Hardcore versions at launch.

Hardcore Modes

Hardcore removes much of the normal HUD and makes gunfights more dangerous. Players can be eliminated much faster, so accuracy, positioning, and awareness become even more important.

There are six Hardcore variants at launch:

  • Team Deathmatch
  • Domination
  • Hardpoint
  • Kill Confirmed
  • Free for All
  • Search and Destroy

Kill Block

One of the biggest new multiplayer features is Kill Block. Kill Block uses modular sections called Slabs that can be rearranged to create different map layouts. This allows the battlefield to change between matches and rounds. The system will keep your gameplay fresh and fun because players cannot rely on exactly the same layout every time. Kill Block also supports different player counts and the new 10v10 Gun Fight experience.

Movement and Gunplay

Modern Warfare 4 also introduces changes to movement and shooting. Players can use features such as fluid mantling, ledge hanging while aiming, and moving along pipes and edges. The game also removes hipfire bloom, making weapon shots more closely follow crosshair placement. Loadouts use a pick-three perk system while scorestreaks are connected to custom class setups.
