The story of Thief: 

Master Thief Edition takes place in a dark, gothic city called The City. The city is ruled by a tyrannical Baron who has outlawed all forms of magic and technology, leaving the population impoverished and in squalor.

 

Garrett, the master thief, is hired by a mysterious client to steal a valuable gem called The Heart of the Lion from the Baron's mansion. However, things quickly turn dark as Garrett becomes embroiled in a conspiracy threatening to plunge the city into chaos.

 

As Garrett progresses through the Game, he must uncover the secrets of The City and its inhabitants while also dealing with the shadowy organization known as The Keepers, who have their agenda.
