Gameplay:

In the first-person simulation GameHardspace: Shipbreaker, the player controls a shipbreaker working for Lynx Corporation throughout the Game. To pay off the enormous debt the player character owes to Lynx, the player must rescue usable materials from abandoned spacecraft in exchange for credits. The player is furnished with several devices. They can pick up small objects or pull themselves toward larger ones using a tethered tool. A laser cutter can also sever big things or incise essential structures. A scanner can be used to find potential dangers as well. Each randomly generated ship in the Game has possible hazards the player could encounter and perish.

For instance, gamers may unintentionally cut through coolant pipes or electrical wires, causing a massive explosion. They might also start an uncontrolled decompression, flushing the player out of the ship and all the other objects in the room. The ship reactor is one of the Game's most expensive equipment. Players must transport it to the deposit place as soon as possible after removing it from its coolant case because if they don't, this will melt down and cause a tremendous explosion. Players must manage their resources, like oxygen and thruster fuel, as they explore the spacecraft. Although the studio later added an Open Shift setting that does away with the time limit, all missions were initially timed.
