Plot

It is the year 1938. James Lee Quatermain has various skills, but managing his finances isn't one of them. James works as an explorer, much like his illustrious great-grandfather Allan Quatermain. And despite his despising his well-known name, he knows how to extract money from it—hating both those who take his great-spooky grandfather's tales seriously and those who mock them.

In light of this, Quatermain is hesitant to accompany Jennifer Goodwin, a US agent and former coworker, to an Egyptian temple building so she can rescue an ancient artefact called The Heart of Atlantis. He doesn't care in the least that The Heart is also sought after by a division of the Ahnenerbe. This Nazi organisation specialises in the occult, and he believes in the artefact's purported rejuvenating properties.

However, the course of life might alter one's viewpoint. Quatermain soon finds himself involved in a global pursuit that spans the raging deserts of Egypt, the frigid Arctic, and even the sweltering rainforests of Guatemala. The excitement of the hunt brings out the genuine adventurer in Quatermain as he and agent Goodwin work to stay one step ahead of the Nazis and the Russians to obtain the Heart of Atlantis in long-forgotten temple constructions. James soon discovers that his great-tale grandfathers are not as unbelievable as he had thought, deep inside these temples, where ancient guardians awaken from their endless slumber. All things endure forever, even if they occasionally sleep and are forgotten.
