Alter Ego is the name of a role-playing video Game. In an interactive novel that uses text, players get to decide what happens next. It is written in the style of pick-a-path gamebooks, but it is much longer and more in-depth than traditional gamebooks, thanks to its over a thousand multiple-choice questions. Players can select to be either male or female, and your Alter Ego has two significantly different versions from the time of your birth until the time of your death. Will you become a self-assured, content adult? Will you confront bullies or become friends with them? You'll find a date for the senior prom. Will you get hitched, have kids, or start your own company and make millions?

- In Alter Ego, there are two versions available.
- That shows a male or female life.
- In the Game, Some choices could even cause an early demise or an immediate Game over.
- The Game starts with the player's alter ego as a young child and shows the user a tree diagram with nodes designated with an icon.
- The player chooses an emblem signifying an "experience" or situation to explore.
- In the Game, each icon carries a symbol indicating the type of experience it stands for (For instance, a heart means a sensitive situation).
- The player returns to the tree after deciding on each node, and that node is marked as finished.
- The player's alter ego goes through seven stages while playing the Game, each with its own set of experiences: infancy, childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, adulthood, middle adulthood, and old age.
- Though most of these incidents are humorous, some are disturbing and may even result in early death.
- Throughout the Game, Alter Ego maintains track of specific player statistics that impact the alter ego's capacity to succeed at particular decisions.
- The situations are arranged on a live tree to reflect each stage of life; the situation's reason is displayed on each situation card.
