You take on the role of Scary Girl in this corner action adventure. This young woman has been raised by a giant, knowledgeable octopus and is attempting to identify the identity of the man who keeps appearing in her nightmares. Explore distinct, extraordinarily bright, lively, and mystical landscapes while engaging in a seamless blend of 2D and 3D-level design action. Gamers direct the main character Scarygirl as she moves through twenty-one rounds scattered across seven planets and engages in combat. The Game's 2.5D graphic design uses graphics to give the illusion of depth. Outside of battle, Scarygirl moves through the Game's environment by sprinting, leaping, floating, and grabbing onto things with her tentacle arm. Later on, Scarygirl discovers a feather modification that she may use in place of the leash on her tentacle arm to hover and reach previously unreachable areas. Levels include dangerous hazards that must be avoided, frequently by grabbing them.
Most levels have at minimum two ways to go through them; however, after picking one, the player can go back and choose the other. Groups include dispersed crystals, which may be collected to pay for combat upgrades for battles and to explore, and organ pieces, which raise Scarygirl's total health. Players must travel through levels with many paths to collect the gems and heart pieces.
Scarygirl possesses mild and powerful strikes in a battle that may be combined to create combinations. Heavy blows have the power to throw opponents into the air. Foes can be grappled, hurled, or used to batter other opponents after taking a certain Level of punishment. Crystals may be used to acquire extra moves, such as a clinging assault that heals Scarygirl or a crashing strike that transforms her tentacles into a club. Other weaponry, such as an anchor and a fan, may be bought to substitute the hook on the end of Scarygirl's tentacle arm. When Scarygirl fights, she builds a metre, and when it is ultimately charged, she can go into "Rage Mode."
