Gameplay and Synopsis:
In the music video Game Space Channel 5: Part 2, players assume the position of Ulala, a reporter for the news channel that bears her name in a science fiction future modelled after the 1960s and is home to several rival news outlets. Ulala is dispatched to report on the situation while grappling with other reporters and local officials and to foil the plans of a group known as the Rhythm Rogues, led by Purge and his lieutenant Shadow, who assault people with a dancing madness. In addition to stealing transmitters from other news stations to increase their dance signal, the Rhythm Rogues also captured Space President Peace and demolished the base of Space Channel 5. Ulala defeats Purge after fighting Shadow, who was revealed to a former ally while they were both under hypnosis.
The player controls Ulala as she progresses through six 3D levels, some of which have unique mechanics like battles using band instruments or copying poses for photographs. Each Level's objectives are to eliminate adversaries, prevail in boss fights, and save the locals. Ulala imitates her opponents' actions and vocalisations during the entire Game (compared by journalists to the Game Simon Says). The navigational pad and two action buttons, displayed with the corresponding vocalisations "chu" and "hey," have six buttons corresponding to actions on-screen.
Each Level has a dance area and a shooting area. Ulala utilises "chu" to kill adversaries and "hey" to release hostages in the firing zones. These sections vary considerably; for example, certain songs with lyrics need the player to time button prompts, and other extended notes call for the player to hold down a button. Ulala plays a musical instrument during battle-style segments in addition to conventional conflicts. The player controls these by pressing the action buttons and "down" on the directional pad.
Ratings, displayed in the lower-left corner of the screen, rise with each successful performance and the discovery of hidden techniques. In the default gameplay, Ulala's health is represented by hearts, and the Game ends if Ulala runs out of spirits. A successful performance might raise the heart count. With more rescues and successful dances boosting Ulala's celebration and musical variety, and with more errors causing Ulala's dancing to flag and the music to simplify, Ulala's dancing and backing music alter to match the success rate during any section. After a boss fight, any remaining stars are transformed back into ratings. The current rating is converted into leads that serve as a health metre during boss engagements.
"Ulala's Dance," a separate mode outside the primary campaign, is a 100-stage endurance contest in which Ulala only has one heart. In addition to discovering hidden movements in the normal levels, completing Ulala's Dance successfully unlocks outfits and accessories for Ulala. Multiplayer is also supported in Part 2, with one person controlling the directional pad and the other the action buttons.
