The first-person shooter video game Metro 2033 was created by 4A Games and released by THQ in 2010. The plot is based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's book of the same name, in which nuclear war survivors seek safety in Moscow's subway system. Players take on the role of Artyom, a man tasked with protecting his home station from the perils within the Metro. Several weapons can be used to slay the human and mutant foes players face in the game. Players must also don a gas mask to explore regions beneath and on the surface exposed to fallout radiation.
Plot
In 2013, a nuclear war wreaked havoc on the planet and killed billions of people. Russia, especially the now-desolate wasteland of Moscow, is one of the devastated countries. Only a few survivors can find refuge in the Metro system, collecting broken items and cultivating mushrooms for food. Rats and bears have transformed into horrifying creatures, and the air has become severely radioactive in many places, making it hard to exist without a gas mask. While opportunistic bandits rob supplies and take hostages in the subway tunnels, there is a perpetual state of conflict between the Stalinists and the Nazis. The Rangers emerge as an unbiased force for maintaining peace in the Metro.
Gameplay
- The first-person shooter video game Metro 2033 has some scenes on the surface, in the ruins of Moscow; most of it is set in the metro tunnels of Moscow.
- A linear single-player campaign is used to tell the tale, and key plot points are displayed during cutscenes.
- Several firearms can be used to dispatch the human and mutant foes. Assault rifles, shotguns, revolvers, and more novel weaponry like a pneumatic crossbow, are all included in the game.
- Mutant foes stay out in the open and try to bite the player while human enemies hide and flank them during firefights. Alternatively, the player can use stealth to avoid detection or discreetly dispatch foes.
- This can be accomplished by shooting an adversary with a silenced weapon or killing them with a thrown knife from a distance.
- The player has two options for regaining health: either waiting for it to regenerate or instantly using a medical kit. The head-up display in the game is simple (HUD).
- The player receives gameplay information via audio and visual cues. Players may need to check their guns to see if they will run out of ammunition and need to reload.
- The player frequently has little ammunition and must scavenge for supplies from caches or dead bodies because the game has a strong survival horror focus.
