The historical trade simulation and strategy series continue with Patrician IV. When the Hanseatic League thrived in the late Middle Ages, you were a merchant in northern Europe. Your objective is to become Hanse's most successful and influential member and ultimately be chosen as the league's Elderman. So you begin bartering with basic items, expand your manufacturing, and construct a merchant fleet. Later, you may build other towns when your political influence grows.
As one of the developers' goals was to move focus away from acquiring material objects, or "loot," as player motivation, the game is likewise incredibly sparse in its use of powerup items. The player must cast the magic in a concise amount of time, or else they will perish.
A Hanse merchant's life can, however, also be complicated. On the path to power, you must defend your position against aggressive opponents, who you must battle through price wars, economic competition, or immoral measures like sabotage. But, even so, are you going to pirate?
