To witness a variety of endings, you must achieve a specific level of recognition from the Kingdom within a predetermined amount of time and meet particular requirements. Along with the kingdom's reputation, popularity in town gained through granting citizens' demands also significantly impacts the final ending you receive.
Gameplay:
The four primary game modes in Atelier Rorona are the field map, the fighting screen, the alchemy system, and the visual novel system. Two static map images that show a scaled-down perspective of Arland city and its surroundings are used for navigation. The towns and forests on the field map are shown as realistically produced settings where the player can interact with residents, obtain things, or face foes. On field maps, enemies are fully evident to the players, and they can engage or avoid them. A separate fighting screen opens when you make contact with the adversaries.
In Atelier Rorona, combat is turn-based, lasting until one side is victorious or the other retreats. Physical assaults, objects, or skills can be used by the player to inflict damage on the target or heal characters. Each player and opponent has a fixed number of hit points consumed when they are attacked or use specific skills. The player is sent back to the game's town if all their characters faint in battle or lose their hit points. Some items and abilities also impact the battle's component, which, relying on the element, may increase or decrease the effectiveness of specific skills performed or make new skills available.
Plot:
The game briefly introduces the city of Arland, which utilises technology from an old civilisation while progressively industrialising. The lead character, Rorolina Frixell (also known as Rona for short), is then introduced. She is compelled to work for a great alchemist (Astrid Zexis) to pay off her parents' debt. The alchemy workshop is one day visited by Sterkenburg Cranach (Sterk, for short), a prince of Arland, who informs Rorona that the business will be closed unless she can demonstrate its viability to the local economy. She will have to pass 12 tests over the following three years to determine the workshop's proficiency.
After being sent back in time, the protagonists of the next two games in the Atelier: Arland series, Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland and Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arlan, appear as guest characters in the postgame storyline introduced in Atelier Rorona Plus. These two characters are Rorona's future apprentice Totooria Helmold (Totori), and Totori's apprentice Princess Merurulince Rede Arls (Meruru),
