1. Jesse Faden vs Dylan Faden

The main Control Resonant vs Control difference point is who you will play as the protagonist.

You will be playing as Jesse Faden in control but in the sequel you will play as her brother Dylan. Both games have different storylines and different gameplay.

In Control, Jesse enters the Federal Bureau of Control to find her brother, Dylan but gets stuck in their evil plans which keep drawing her deeper. In Control: Resonant, the story changes and you guide Dylan instead. He has been with the FBC for years and when he is finally released, he has to find his sister Jesse. He tries to piece together what happened to him. At the same time, he is trying to make sense of the events around him.

2. The Setting Is Much Bigger

Control is linked to the Oldest House, a weird home base for the Federal Bureau of Control. The place does not stay put. In a moment, a hallway is there, and then it is gone. Rooms can look normal and then shift into something off. You might also wander into spots that feel like paranormal even when you begin in regular offices.

Control Resonant pushes you out of the usual scene and you get sent to a Manhattan that does not line up with real maps. Something big and supernatural has hit the city and instead of being locked to one main building, you move across several districts.

Each area has been bent in its own way by forces you cannot explain. That makes the game feel more spread out than the first one.

3. The Paranormal Crisis Has Expanded

The Hiss is the worst threat in Control. It is a weird kind of corruption that can take hold of people working for the FBC. Once it takes over, those workers turn into hostile enemies. The Bureau is still working to stop the spread inside the Oldest House. In Control Resonant, that kind of containment no longer holds.

Now the crisis has moved beyond the Oldest House. It is reaching into Manhattan and The Hiss is still at the heart of what is happening. You will also have to deal with the Mold. It is a spreading set of microorganisms. On top of that, there are other twisted paranormal dangers waiting too.

Because of all of this, the fight in the next action game feels bigger. The first game focuses on one main aim. Jesse wants to get control back at the Bureau. Control Resonant goes farther than that. It makes you ask what comes next when the Bureau cannot keep the supernatural world out anymore.

4. Jesse and Dylan Have Different Missions

Jesse and Dylan are siblings, but they do not take the same road as we see in Control Resonant vs Control.

Jesse sets out to find Dylan in Control. Along the way, she tries to understand the strange events tied to the FBC. Her personal search turns into a wider fight. The question becomes who can steer the Bureau.

Dylan shifts the focus in the other direction. In the game, Jesse goes into the Oldest House to confront the threat within. Dylan has a different job. He must move past it to deal with what is happening outside.

That is how the two adventure games link.

In Control, Jesse heads inward.

In Control Resonant, Dylan heads outward. With that in mind, the bond between Jesse and Dylan could end up shaping a lot of what comes next.

Control Gameplay

5. A Major Change in Combat

Jesse fights with her Service Weapon and with telekinesis. Her Service Weapon can swap into new shapes. Jesse also pushes and throws items with her supernatural power. She can steer enemies, set up defenses, and move through the space with ease.

Control Resonant alters that plan. Dylan fights using paranormal powers too. He also relies on a melee tool that can change shape: the Aberrant.

The Aberrant shifts based on what Dylan needs. At one moment it is like a strong two-handed hammer. Later it can become quick dual blades. So the fight is not just about picking one weapon mode. The weapon itself adjusts in real time to fit each situation.

6. Gunplay vs Shapeshifting Melee Combat

This is one of the easiest gameplay differences to spot.

In Control, you get both shooting and telekinesis. You can fire the Service Weapon, then use supernatural power right away to move things around you.

In Resonant, more weight is placed on Dylan’s own physical weapon.

The Aberrant is built to keep fights feeling fast and shifting. A heavy hammer works well when you want strong strikes. Dual blades can help with quick hits and tighter control.

What Both Games Still Share

Despite all these differences, Control Resonant is clearly connected to the original Control.

Both games feature:

  • The Federal Bureau of Control.
  • Paranatural events and unexplained entities.
  • The Hiss and its corrupting influence.
  • Strange reality-changing environments.
  • Supernatural abilities.
  • Environmental combat.
  • Mystery-driven storytelling.
  • Remedy Entertainment’s distinctive world-building.
  • Jesse and Dylan Faden as important parts of the story.

The biggest difference is not that Resonant abandons Control’s formula. Instead, it appears to expand it.

Final Verdict: Control Resonant vs Control

Control Resonant vs Control has become a good subject for fans. For fans of Control, the most exciting difference may be the combination of a new protagonist, a larger world, new enemies, and a completely different weapon philosophy. Control established a bizarre supernatural universe and Control Resonant looks set to show what happens when that universe can no longer be contained.
