Colonial Conquest is a Historical Wargame developed by Argonauts Interactive and published by Plug In Digital in 2015.
Try this amazing Wargame today!
There are around 130 areas of the world that are unclaimed. The territories are unknown until they are conquered or spied upon and have varying income and VP values (determined arbitrarily in the Standard scenario). Every area that is not controlled by a Major Power is typically owned and defended by a separate Minor nation.
Three different scenarios are available in the game: one begins in the year 1880 with a historical setting, another in the year 1914 with historical positions, and the third is an open ca. 1870 scenario where each nation merely has its own homelands (free-for-all non-historical)
Each player enters the game's three main phases in the order they appear, i.e. Build Phase, Movement Phase (Army & Navy), Combat Phase (Spring Only, with Army & Navy Construction, Fortification, Economic Aid, Espionage, Subversion),
Each Major country is either computer- or human-controlled, or it is labelled as neutral and then behaves as a Minor country.
Hotseat play is possible with the option to cap the playing time per player at four minutes.
About one season is represented by each game turn.
The game continues until the required outcomes are met.
The Key Features of Colonial Conquest include
- Go back in time to the Golden Warfare era and take control of one of the few nations that shaped the world we live in today.
- Travel the world by boat, horseback, or on foot as your country displays its might in the military and the economy.
- Use covert methods like espionage and subversion to complement brawn, such as deception.
- Compete against the European hegemons during their last heydays before they consumed the world in the conflagrations of the first world war.
- Play as either of the two rising superpowers at the time: the United States of America or Imperial Japan, or as a major European country to push them back within their borders.
- Play against artificial intelligence (AI) or other people who want to rule the earth.
Gameplay
- Build new armies and fleets during the army and navy build phase (spring) in your supply centres.
- The phase of Fortification (Spring): Strengthen army units (except in Supply Centers, which are already fortified).
- Lend money to other major nations as part of the economic aid phase (spring) so that it can be added to their treasuries. Alternately, lend money to small, neutral nations so they can instantly start building armies.
- Espionage Phase (Spring): Gain an approximate (not always accurate) understanding of a Minor country's or a Major country's controlled region's army strength and income. and the VP value of the area
- Spend money to pay a minor country's army in order to undermine its defences or spark a coup during the subversion phase (spring) (giving you control of the said country in return).
- Only move armies to neighbouring territories during the movement phase (all turns). Navigate between ports either by yourself or with an army (or carry regiments to amphibious landings on enemy holdings).
- Combat Phase (All Turns): There may be up to 20 rounds of combat; each round consists of a naval fight (if there are ships present) followed by a ground battle.
