The Witcher series has been a massive hit among fans. Especially the latest edition called The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. According to sources, the game sold over 50 million units which cemented its place in one of the best-selling video games of all time.
However, the game had some downsides as well, especially with the NPCs in the game. Players took notice The Witcher 3 NPCs were repetitive in their nature and design and also lacked personality. It seems as if the developers of the game have taken it into account and gamers are not going to see more evolved NPCs in the upcoming Witcher 4. Let’s discuss.
The Boring NPCs in The Witcher Games
When it comes to open-world games, NPCs play a crucial role. Rather than just being like Robots with limited movements and functions in the game, they should aim at making the player more immersed in the gameplay. In the previous Witcher Titles, especially in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, the NPCs mainly had the role of quest givers and vendors only adding to the game’s world and atmosphere.
This eventually led to not-so-interesting interactions in the game as they don’t serve a specific purpose beyond the roles they have been assigned. Sebastian Kalemba in an interview with Gamertag Radio mentioned that the Witcher 4 NPCs will be more evolved, specifically designed to look like they are living their own lives. Also, they will be more interactive, and the cosmetic details will be better as well.
What Can We Expect
Sebastian Kalemba while breaking down the cinematic trailer of Witcher 4 at Game Awards explained a brief snipped of a person called Ciri interacting with a village called Stamford. He further went on to mention every villager has a unique voice, objective, and opinion. “Every character is going to have its role”, he adds. He further mentioned how the dev team is making sure to push the quality of the NPCs, this includes the way they look, their behavior, and also their facial expressions.
To Conclude
Witcher 4 is set to improve upon the boring and repetitive NPC design that its predecessors always had. There are clear signs and indications that the upcoming Witcher game is going to have better NPC design and interaction. This will help add more depth to the game. According to Sebastian Kalemba, the new NPCs will have improved interactivity, detailed appearances, and realistic behaviors, making them integral to the immersive gameplay experience in the upcoming installment.
