Developed and published by Koei Tecmo Games, the action RPG series is returning with its third installment after almost 6 years, Nioh 3. And hence, many fans ask: When is Nioh 3 coming out? We’ll answer that below. The Nioh franchise comprises two main games: Nioh (2017) and Nioh 2 (2020), both action RPGs set in a dark, supernatural feudal Japan. The remastered/ complete editions have been released for PlayStation 5 and PC, including all DLC for both titles. But in this one, things are taking a dramatic turn. How? Let’s find out.
When is Nioh 3 Coming Out?
The third installment in the dark samurai action RPG series, Nioh 3, is set to release on 6th February 2026. Releasing in two editions: Standard and Digital Deluxe, it’s coming wth its two most beloved elements; an open field that challenges you to the fullest. And the Samurai and Ninja combat styles, which you will need during your battles against formidable yokai as you explore a thrilling open field.
For the first time in the series, the developers of Nioh are bringing the Bakumatsu era to life, which is the end of the samurai era. Alongside, they are introducing a new cast of distinctive characters and powerful yokai. The story happens in Kyoto in 1864, during the Bakumatsu era, the last days of the samurai. In this world, a scary force called the Crucible has covered most of Japan, and evil yokai monsters wander everywhere. Brave loyalist warriors protect the Spirit Trees to stop the Crucible from reaching the shogunate’s lands. New characters include: Takasugi Shinsaku, Okita Soji, and Tokugawa Yoshinobu.

Nioh 3 Demo
As the release date for Nioh 3 approaches, the developers announced that the demo for Nioh 3 will be available from 29th January 2026. It was confirmed during The Game Awards 2025, alongside the release of a new trailer. In addition to that, it was also confirmed that there will be exclusive bonus content for players who obtain the Early Purchase Bonus. These include two types of equipment themed around the protagonists from previous titles in the series.
These include: The “Youngblood Armor (Samurai)” worn by William in Nioh, and the “Lone Wolf’s Armor (Ninja)” worn by Hiddy in Nioh 2. You get these items by downloading the Early Purchase Bonus “Hellfrost Armor Set” on the same platform and account before Thursday, February 19, 2026.
How Long is the Nioh 3 Demo?
The new Nioh 3 demo will offer roughly 4 to 8 hours of gameplay, allowing players to explore new mechanics, combat styles (Samurai and Ninja), open-field zones, and more. The players will also get to see the environment undergo significant changes as the story progresses. Moreover, compared to its earlier state, players may discover new surprises and hidden elements through exploration. More information about the Nioh 3 Demo will be announced by the developers in the upcoming days. For now, these are all the important points that you can note:
- Timeframe: Expect around 4 to 8 hours, depending on exploration and completion.
- New Mechanics: Experience deeper combat with new Samurai and Ninja styles, aerial moves, cloning ninjutsu, and more complex level design.
- Multiplayer: The demo includes online multiplayer for up to three players.
- Demo Release: January 29, 2026.
- Platforms: PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam).
- Save Data: Progress from the demo will be carried directly into the final game. To transfer demo save data to the full version, the demo save data must be stored on the device used to play the full game, and the same PlayStation Network account or Steam account must be used for the full version.
- Demo Completion Award: Players will receive a “Twin-Snake Helmet” upon completion of the demo. The helmet is identical to the completion reward offered in the Alpha Demo.
- Players who are already eligible to receive the completion reward from the Alpha Demo (previous demo) will not be able to obtain the reward again through this demo.
- Internet Connection: An active network connection is required to play this demo on PlayStation 5 or PC.
