8. Emily
Emily Davis is played by Nichole Sakura and is not a likable character, as she is selfish and only cares about herself. She is portrayed as intelligent, ambitious, and aggressive, at times showing assertive behavior that can even be intimidating when dealing with other characters. Being Matt’s girlfriend, she happens to be concerned about her relationship and keeps on trying to prove her independence at different times. Emily, along with Matt, tries to reach out to the Rangers for help through the radio tower, which shows her courage and determination to survive.

7. Mike
Michael Monroe, or Mike, played by Brett Dalton, is a handsome and confident character in the game. He is often expected to take on a leadership role within the group of friends. Like others, his decisions and actions also determine which Until Dawn characters will live or die. He tries his best to protect his friends from the dangers lurking around the lodge. Coming to his romantic life, he starts dating Jessica after his breakup with Emily.

6. Josh
Joshua Washington, or Josh, is played by Rami Malek in Until Dawn. He is a college dropout and a depressed soul. After losing his sisters, Hannah and Beth, a year ago at the lodge, Josh was angry and not in his right mind. He conspires to get back at his friends for abandoning him after that incident by inviting them to the lodge once again, misleading them by saying that it’s the first anniversary of his sisters’ disappearance, and he wants to grieve with them.

5. Chris
Then comes the nerdy Chris Hartley, who loves technology, played by actor Noah Fleiss. Known for his humor and calm and easygoing nature, Chris often lightens the mood among his friends, especially in tense situations. The fact that he had a crush on Ashley but was hesitant to tell her makes us empathetic towards him. He is courageous, and we get to know it when he tries to save his friends at the Washington Lodge by risking his own life.

4. Ashley
Ashley Brown, voiced by actress Galadriel Stineman, gets scared easily and doesn’t do much for her friends’ survival. We neither love her nor hate her. She is mostly into keeping herself safe. Her decisions or actions can mean a big deal in getting her friends killed throughout the game.
She is particularly close to Chris and has a huge crush on him, and their relationship makes the plot a little more interesting. She warns her buddies about Wendigo, some kind of horrifying creatures, which takes the plot further. Like other characters, even her journey is marked by moments of vulnerability and the struggle to make tough choices.

3. Matt
Matthew “Matt” Taylor is the nice and kind guy portrayed by the actor Jordan Fisher. He is characterised as a caring and loyal boyfriend to Emily, showing his dedication to her throughout the game. His protective instincts come to the forefront when danger strikes, as he does everything he can to keep Emily and his friends safe from the horrors that lurk in the woods.
His primary role is to help Emily reactivate the radio tower so they might call the Rangers to send aid. Once the tower has fallen and Matt and Emily split, Matt’s storyline leaves off on its own, separated from the rest of the Until Dawn characters and the central plot. Many players will likely encounter him for the first game and only have the chance to explore him a little.

2. Jessica
Jessica “Jess” Riley is a bubbly, ‘peppy’ character with blonde hair, played by Meaghan Martin. It is evident that Jess is a fun-loving, vibrant personality and is also very close to Sam, lightening up the atmosphere of the group. She is looking forward to the trip to the Washington Lodge and can’t deny the fact that she’s flirting with Mike, which showcases her romantic side. This also makes her hateful towards Mike’s ex-girlfriend Emily.
But things become darker about her character as the story unfolds; Jess quickly becomes a target for evil forces lurking in the mountains. She could die at many points in the game, and it’s up to you to save her.

1. Samantha
Samantha “Sam” Giddings is one of the main protagonists of Until Dawn. The key characteristics that define Sam are her unyielding spirit, resourcefulness, and determination to control her situation. Portrayed by Hayden Panettiere, Sam is given to be the most level-headed and morally grounded member of the group. Whenever chaos strikes, Sam usually takes charge. She will have to face challenges when she finds herself trapped inside the Washington Lodge with terrifying, mysterious events.
Despite the great fear and chaos around her, Sam remains composed and dedicated to saving her friends, making her one of the strongest characters in the game. She comforts Josh when he loses his sisters, protects Ashely when danger engulfs her, and is always there for her friends. She is the portrait of a true heroine.

The Until Dawn characters are all unique and exciting. Each of them has a role in taking the plot further. Their courage levels and intelligence might differ, but they all struggle to survive in their own ways. They are ready to do whatever it takes to stay alive, but sadly, not all can live.
