Who does not love the thrill of jumping across rooftops as an assassin? Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to be out on February 14, 2025, and with it comes the iconic experience of leaping efficiently across rooftops as you venture through the streets of Kyoto. Shadows assume its players to Feudal Japan, where they get into the shoes of Naoe, the stealthy Shinobi, who is known for her agility while keeping up with secrecy. On the other hand, we have Yasuke, the samurai, with whom players will get to experience a completely different gameplay as he is unusually slower in navigating rooftops. Stay hinged as we take you through the parkour system in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Parkour System in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Parkour Up: Parkour Up isn’t a new move in the Assassin’s Creed series, and, the Shadows has it too. With this, players will be able to jump higher using the Parkour Up button, climb walls, leap across gaps, or jump in absolute voids with the hope of reaching better heights and improving their gameplay.
- Parkour Down: With dodge mechanics getting incorporated into the parkour system, players will be able to dodge down smoothly, reaching the lowest point below them. This will also help players prevent getting into dangerous leaps in the void, allowing low-profile landings with the least sound possible. Players can dodge down with or without directional input, whichever way they please.
- Recovery Roll: Recovery roll comes to the rescue as players get into any dangerous high-profile leaps. This can be triggered by pressing the dodge-down button, resulting in a strategic landing.
Sprint Mechanics in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Sprint Dodge: Specific to Naoe, Sprint Dodge can be performed by pressing the dodge button while sprinting. This will protect Naoe from damage, letting this shinobi warrior jump over items slightly smaller than her. This also lets her dodge ranged enemies or jump off from higher cliffs when not using a recovery roll.
- Automated Passovers and Shoulder Tackle: While sprinting, Naoe will be able to perform automated Passovers, swiftly passing over fences, windowsills, wooden crates, etc. On the other hand, Yasuke can shoulder-tackle or shoulder-bash anything that blocks his way while sprinting.
- The Crouch and the Prone Stance: While sprinting, players will be able to change stances. The Crouch Stance will result in players getting into a knee-slide and a crouched position while the Prone Stance will let both the characters dive into the ground and stop in the Prone position.
The Grappling Hook in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
The Grappling hook is an interesting part of Naoe’s arsenal, letting her perform some mind-boggling moves and reach unclimbable heights. Her Hook Moves will have:
- Vertical Climb: With the vertical ascent, Naoe will be able to hook onto any horizontal ledge and climb over it.
- Hook Swing: As Naoe ventures through Feudal Japan, she can use the hook swing to cover gaps in the landscape. As the setup gets advanced, she will also be able to use a hook swing multiple times in a row without stepping on the ground.
- Wall Run Hook: As the landscape gets more cutting-edge, Naoe will be able to climb up the unclimbable walls by hooking onto the apex of the wall, extending her ascending abilities.
The Limitations
As Assassin’s Creed Shadows releases on February 14, 2025, it will come with some unclimbable structures. As the developer notified, Naoe and Yasuke will only be able to climb onto surfaces with physical handholds.
Shadows will also introduce interesting Parkour Highways, defining the path for Naoe to venture across heights. This will also limit Yasuke’s leaps in certain landscapes. Though this might appear limiting, this will optimize the pathways making them flow well. This will result in two contrasting gameplays for our two different characters.
However, as per Simon, most of these structures will be climbable, especially with Naoe’s grappling hook. But, the players will have to keep an eye on valid entry points.
Summary
The Shadows are soon going to take over. With release confirmed next month, Ubisoft unleashed the parkour system overview while also revealing how every structure will not be climbable. The Parkour System in Assassin’s Creed Shadows lets players Parkour up, Parkour Down, or get into a recovery roll. Other than these, players will also be able to sprint dodge or use Naoe’s Grappling hook to climb unreachable walls. Assassin’s Creed Shadows also comes with some advanced parkour moves like performing directional dodges being in a crouched stance or holding onto the ledge while jumping off high structures. All these parkour moves when glued together are set to make the game even more gripping than Naoe’s Grappling Hook.
