Being a lifelong gaming fan, it had always been a dream of mine to get my hands on the PlayStation 5. The latest gaming console by Sony in its long line of dominating video game consoles. Capturing the true essence of gaming for well over 30 years. That dream finally came true just a month ago when I bought the latest version of the PlayStation 5. Now, Gaming on it for nearly a month now I present you my honest review of turning on a PlayStation 5 in 4 years.

This review is for anyone considering to upgrade from the PlayStation 4 or purchase a console for the very first time and are looking to buy the PS5.
Unboxing and Setup
To start off things let’s talk about the unboxing experience and the console at first glance. I got myself the PS5 Slim Disc Edition with two controllers, charging dock, a few games and a carry-case. Like any Sony Product, the console arrived in its signature white PlayStation box, neatly packed with all necessary components, including power cables, HDMI wires, and a user manual.

The latest version of the PS5 is noticeably lighter than the original launch version of 2020. Weighing around 3kgs while its predecessor was around 4.5 (That was a big boi). Then turning on the PlayStation 5 and setting it up was seamless. The console’s setup felt far more refined than the PS4, and the performance differences between the two were immediately noticeable. I chose to set up my ps5 a in the vertical position as it looked more appealing to the eyes and saved a ton of space on my already cramped desk.

Turning on the PlayStation 5
From the moment I held the DualSense Controller in my hand and turning on the playstation 5. I felt the huge leap of advancement Sony took with their next-gen console. The refined design, immersive haptic feedback, and adaptive triggers instantly set it apart. Coming from seven years with the PlayStation 4, the difference was night and day, yet the PS5 still retains the signature PlayStation charm.

The PlayStation 5’s UI is not only sleeker but also more intuitive and user-friendly than any previous console. With its shortcut capability and full customization options, everything you need is just a tap away. My first impressions of the PS5 blew me outta the park as I was excited for every little new feature Sony has introduced. From the customizable Game Hub to the new accessibility options. The UI shines through with little clutter and unnecessary tabs.
Gameplay & Performance
Performance was my biggest question before getting the PS5. The first game I played on my new console was Cyberpunk 2077, ( one of the main reasons I got the thing in the first place). From the moment I started Cyberpunk 2077, the game looked absolutely breathtaking and truly next-gen. Walking through the streets of Night City was an experience in itself. The PlayStation 5 runs games at a smooth 60 to 120 FPS in stunning 4K resolution. Ray tracing adds to the beautiful reflections and lighting effects, making every game world feel more surreal.

But The real star of the show is the Playstation 5 DualSense Controller. There is no better controller in the video game console market! Its adaptive triggers coupled with the haptic feedback bring the controller to life. If you press a button-you will feel it and hear it through the haptics and vibrations. The triggers on the PlayStation 5 controller are insane I’ll tell you how I experienced it.

Got my hands on a Liberty Pistol in CyberpunK 2077, and pulled the trigger on the first guy I saw, blowing a hole through his “thinking matter”. But before that, the R2 Trigger frezzed for half a second when I pulled the trigger. That’s the adaptive trigger of the PlayStation 5 controller for you.

While we are on the topic of performance, let me also bring to notice the super fast speed of the PlayStation 5. The base console comes with a 1TB SSD, making boot-up times and loading screens practically non-existent. This truly is a big leap over the PS4 and any other console available in the market.
Available Games and backward compatibility
One of my biggest fears even before the PS5 launched was, What will I do with the stacks of my old PS4 Discs when the new console arrives? Well, Sony answered it gracefully, as the console supports the majority of the PS4 titles if they are available with you in disc format. Just pop in the disc and enjoy an upgraded version of the same game enhanced for the PS5 with the Boost performance feature. Older titles do feel next-generation with upgraded framerates and much smoother performance. Games like games like

Coming to the list of brand-new titles available for the PS5 is where the console genuinely lacks. This was one of the down factors after I purchased the console as it lacks a good amount of true next-generation titles available for it. Sony this time around flopped when it came to bringing first-party games to their console like they did with the previous two consoles, Playstation 3 & 4.

Some of the best games available on the PlayStation 5 are:
- Helldivers 2
- God of War Ragnarök
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Elden Ring
- GTA V
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Demon’s Souls
- Gran Turismo 7
- Alan Wake 2
- Astro Bot
But there are some complaints I have with the thing

If you are a frequent gamer who plays multiple titles at once then that 1 TB SSD will fill up quicker than you dying in DarkSouls III. The size of video games has increased to over 100Gbs in the “next-gen era”. There is also a lack of game themes for your home screen which are missing. And that HDMI Cable is too short to place the thing less than 10 cm away from the tv screen (It’s not 10 actually more like 5 Feet but it’s short, for that price you should be getting a much bigger cable.)
And to end this honest review of my Turning on PlayStation 5 experience with the console. I Give you my
Verdict – Is the PlayStation 5 in 2025, Worth A Buy?

In One Word, Yes. The PlayStation 5 is a must-buy in 2025. Whether you are a long-term PlayStation fan looking to upgrade from a PS4 or this is your first time purchasing a console. It’s been four years since the console was released and it has finally become the machine it was set out to be. With a fully built exo-system around it, a library of good titles, and true next-generation performance. For those still on the fence, now is the best time to jump in. If you’ve waited this long it’s time you cash in that paycheck and get yourself a PlayStation 5.
