Surprise Update for Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth

2024 is ending on a mild note for Final Fantasy fans as Square Enix just dropped a surprise update for Final Fantasy VII Remake & Rebirth, but it’s not what you expect. Both titles have received a small patch to improve issues addressed by the player for the DualSense Controller. The latest update is now available as of December 24, for players both on the PlayStation 5 and PC. Let’s take a look at some of the tweaks and changes in the Final Fantasy VII Remake & Rebirth update.

Final Fantasy VII Remake & Rebirth Update

Both the Remake and Rebirth advanced to a new version with Remake now at Version 1.005 from the previous 1.003, and Rebirth at version 1.080. The small patch was in light of players facing issues with Sony’s DualSense controller vibrations not working properly for both games. Many players experienced these issues after the latest patches to the game.

The latest update while being a heft size of 9GB, does not add any significant content to the game and is purely for the issues with the haptic feedback on the DualSense controller. Both games previously received updates adding the ability to fast-forward cutscenes in the games and the remake also received an update for a head start function which provided the players with bonus money, progressed level, and some materials.

Fan Reception to Final Fantasy Updates

Final Fantasy games have some of the most hardcore and loyal fan base for any game to date. Many veteran fans of the series have been playing the games for years and with the current patch for the games right on Christmas Eve, many expected some major additions to the game but that didn’t come to fruition. As the latest update for Final Fantasy VII Remake & Rebirth dealt with the issue of the DualSense controller.

Square Enix also doesn’t have any plans for PS5 Pro support for the Remake, a decision which has sparked much disappointment for fans. The FF Rebirth itself has been plagued with blurry resolution when played in the performance mode, with recent patches not being much improvement for the game. Despite all the minor patches to the game, the developer has confirmed no future plans for any DLCs for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth ahead of its launch on PC in 2025.

Final Fantasy Rebirth Coming to PC

Rebirth is part of the new Final Fantasy Trilogy with Remake being the first third of the Final Fantasy Seven story and Rebirth a direct sequel to the remake, the story will be finished off in a few years with a third entry on the horizon.
