Bethesda is set to release the first-ever story expansion Shattered Space for its latest Role-Playing game, Starfield. The highly anticipated announcement was made at Gamescom’s 2024 opening night. Shattered Space will officially be released on September 30th, 2024, and the highly awaited REV-8 buggy will be added to Starfield today with a free update. Shattered Space DLC
In the vast expanse of Starfield’s Settled Systems, House Va’ruun stands out as one of the most elusive and enigmatic factions. Shrouded in mystery, the home planet of House Va’ruun remains hidden from most of the galaxy’s inhabitants. What little is known about this secretive group primarily revolves around their fearsome reputation and a violent history that has left many in the Settled Systems wary of them. Followers of the Great Serpent, the Va’ruun, are more than just a dangerous faction—they represent a religious zeal that drives their every move.
Shattered Space DLC brings players face-to-face with this shadowy faction. It all begins when a distress signal draws you toward an abandoned star station. Upon arrival, players will find themselves unwittingly on a path leading to Va’ruun’kai, the mysterious heart of House Va’ruun. What starts as a routine investigation quickly spirals into a web of secrets and power struggles that thrust you deeper into the dark lore of the Va’ruun faith. Shattered Space is set to have a rather darker tone than the base Starfield gameplay, with a more focus on the narrative of this DLC. We saw glimpses of the gameplay with a much darker appeal and horror elements, which are genuinely gonna be unsettling for most players.
Free Update and REV-8 Buggy
While Shattered Space is a month away, players can dive back into Starfield today and get their hands on the newly added REV-8 Buggy, which can be used to traverse the terrain across different systems. The REV-8 is customisable, and players can choose various paint jobs to show off their new wheels. In contrast, travelling players are bound to encounter hostiles and for that, the REV-8 is also fitted with a mounted turret, which can be used to mow down waves of enemies and robust armor to protect your buggy from any external threats. The REV-8 is also fitted with forward boosters and additional boosters to make the car go Mario in sticky situations during your journey.
New Settings for Xbox
New Xbox Series S display settings that mirror existing Xbox Series X settings are also available in the August Update.
Frame Rate Target: On VRR displays, you can now select from 30, 40, 60, or Uncapped frame rates. On non-VRR displays running at 120Hz, only 30 and 60 FPS options are available, but screen tearing may occur when using 60 FPS.
Prioritize Options: Choose between prioritizing Visuals or Performance while maintaining your selected frame rate. Performance is recommended for 60 FPS or higher. Visuals mode focuses on higher resolution and full detail for effects, lighting, and crowds. Performance mode lowers resolution and detail but keeps smoother gameplay. Both modes may dynamically adjust resolution during intense scenes, and switching modes may briefly affect lighting.
VSync: You can now toggle VSync on or off. Turning it off allows frames to run separately from the monitor’s refresh rate, which may cause screen tearing. Turning it on syncs the frame rate to the monitor’s refresh rate, reducing tearing but capping the frames.
