Sony Expands Its Universe: Movie Adaptations for Helldivers 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Ghost of Tsushima

Sony has hit big in recent years with its first-party titles like Horizon Zero Dawn, Helldivers 2, Ghost of Tsushima, and more. Recently during the annual CES 2025, Sony announced movie and TV show adaptations for some of its major titles. Including a Helldivers 2 movie adaptation along with a Horizon Zero Dawn movie in production plus an anime featuring the story of Ghost of Tsushima. Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn Movie

During the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, PlayStation Production Head Asad Qizilbash along with Screen Gems President Ashley Brucks announced Sony’s plan to expand its motion picture universe with its IPs like The Last of Us, Uncharted, Twisted Metal, and more. One of the major announcements was the adaptation of Sony’s popular third-person co-op shooter Helldivers 2, with PlayStation production working on bringing freedom and democracy to the big screen.

Another announcement was the collaboration between Colombia Pictures & PlayStation Production adaptation of the Horizon Zero Dawn series of games. The project is in its early stages and will tell the story of Aloy’s origins, the main protagonist of the Horizon games. The movie adaptation plans came to light after attempts at a Netflix Series fell apart. Just like the games, the Horizon Zero Dawn movie will be set in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world.

Ghost of Tsushima Anime & Last of Us Season 2

Earlier during the CES presentation, Sony also announced plans for a Ghost of Tsushima anime called Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. The anime series will be made for the Crunchyroll streaming service and will be developed by Aniplex, the studio behind the Demon Slayer, and will be directed by Takanobu Mizuno. While fans will have to wait until 2027 for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. The sequel to Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei will arrive in 2025 for the PlayStation 5.

And lastly, Neil Druckman took to the stage at Sony’s presentation at CES to reveal a clip from the much anticipated Last of Us Season 2, set to release in March 2025. Based on the highly acclaimed The Last of Us series of video games made by the studio behind Uncharted, Naughty Dog.
