Sony Cancels God Of War Multiplayer Game

Another list of live-service games has joined the chopping block, as Sony cancels two more live-service in-house studio games. Sony confirmed the news to Bloomberg, confirming the shutdown of live service games from Bend Studios and Bluepoint. One of the projects that was sure to make fans upset was the cancellation of the God of War Multiplayer game. The series of cancellations follow Sony’s shutdown of titles like The Last of Us Multiplayer Game, Concord, and now the God of War multiplayer game.

Sony Cancels Two More Live-Service Games

Sony’s cancellation of upcoming live service games has come after a readjustment of its strategy moving forward in 2025. After the huge debacle of Firewalk Studio’s Concord, being the biggest financial flop for Sony. The company has taken a backfoot when it comes to its Live-service titles with Helldivers 2 being the only successful endeavor in the live-service genre of games.

Sony Bend and Bluepoint Games were working on brand new titles for upcoming releases on the PlayStation 5. Bend is well known for its open-world zombie survival shooter, Days Gone and Bluepoint is best known for its remakes of Shadows of Colossus & Demon’s Souls. Both studios were working on separate live-service titles with Bluepoint prominently working on a Multiplayer God of War title.

Why was the God Of War Multiplayer game canceled?

Sony in regards to the cancellation of the upcoming God of War Multiplayer/Live-Service game revealed. The cancellations came after an internal review and Sony working closely with each studio to plan future projects in the pipeline. Previously, the company also canceled The Last of Us Multiplayer title for the same reasons. Sony also stated the shutdown of the projects won’t affect studio closures at Bend and Bluepoint, with no word on any job cuts for either. An internal email as reported by Bloomberg stated that Sony planned to “do everything they can to ensure there is minimal business impact”.

Both studios were already working out of their comfort zone and well into early production for both games. Sony Bend is at its lowest point for now as the studio’s last game came out in 2019, Days Gone. Bluepoint’s last title was the remake of Demon’s Soul, a launch title for the PlayStation 5. It is still unknown where the studios will head from here, but fans shouldn’t be discouraged by the news as Sony is revamping its strategy for new releases and upcoming projects in the future.
