Sea of Thieves x Destiny 2: Review

The recent crossover between Sea of Thieves and Destiny 2 has divided the gaming community. Some players seem to enjoy Destiny cosmetic items being brought into Sea of Thieves like the Drifter’s outfit and the Ghost ship crest being seamlessly blended into the game. One article from IGN states, “The Drifter’s outfit in particular suits the world of Sea of Thieves quite well.” The Sea of Thieves x Destiny 2 crossover has quite taken over the hot releases.

Though the Sea of Thieves x Destiny 2 crossover has brought new fans, some members of the community have their doubts. One article from Rock Paper Shotgun states, “Sea of Thieves’ next crossover is with Bungie’s Destiny, a crossover that doesn’t make all that much sense if we’re being honest.”

One of the Reddit users (r/seaofthieves) has commented- 

> “I never thought I needed Zavala on a pirate ship, but here we are — and it slaps.”

However, some players don’t see how the two games collaborate given the difference in both their settings and genres. On Reddit, a thread discusses how many find the collaboration “one-sided” due to Sea of Thieves getting content based on Destiny 2 and not the other way around. One user stated, “This looks cool but golly gee these collabs are one-sided.”

The gaming community has different opinions about how balanced the collaboration is, but one thing they can all agree on is that it has brought shocking new content to the Sea of Thieves x Destiny 2 crossover.

A few content creators on YouTube made a couple of videos praising the Sea of Thieves x Destiny 2 crossover as a “fun surprise,” pointing towards the cosmetic detail of the sails of the Traveller and the Ghost parrot.  

> “The comment made by the YouTube user was bang on. “I am a Destiny player and Sea of Thieves fan and for me, this is a brilliant crossover. It’s breathtaking visually and fun, just as both games should be.”  

Summary

Overall the gaming community has a mixed opinion towards Sea of Thieves x Destiny 2  crossover. Some players loved the crossover but felt a little differently about it being one-sided, but the fans loved this crossover which gave them access to cosmic costume fits and new weapons with compelling narrative.
