It’s time for fans to say goodbye to some of their beloved Zombies characters in Call of Duty Black Ops 6 which released in October 2024. Activision has now confirmed that the company has recasted some of the Black Ops 6 Zombies characters following the SAG-AFTRA strike which affected the video game industry too. This news comes to light after many fans noticed the voices for some of the characters in the Zombies mode sounded different with Activision now confirming the news recently.
Recasting Zombie Characters
In a statement by Activision, the company confirmed certain Black Ops 6 Zombies characters being recasted, including William Peck (Zeke Alton) and Samantha Maxis (Julie Nathanson), are currently voiced by new, unknown actors. This all comes in after the use of AI in-game and for voice actor performance, which has placed great concerns for many VAs and their rights. Zeke Alton came out and talked about his recast and stated that he has no issues with being recast but worries about the state of the industry and the use of AI as a whole.
This has sparked significant concern among fans and within the broader gaming community. The increasing use of AI in gaming, especially in ways that undermine creative authenticity, has become a glaring and controversial trend. Many see this move by Activision as yet another step toward prioritizing cost-cutting over quality, leaving fans disheartened as the game edges closer to being filled with what some describe as “AI Slop.”

Fans recently noticed a loading screen in the game which featured a zombie Santa reaching towards the screen with a hand that had six fingers. Many can dismiss this as a creative decision but that’s not the case. As fans are in uproar about the use of AI-generated assets for the game and the complaints have been running rampant for the devs, despite the “alleged” use of AI for in-game assets the controversy just got a whole lot more spicy with Activision confirming the recasting of its Black Ops 6 Zombies characters.
