We all saw this coming from a mile away, didn’t we? Rockstar Games is at it again with their purge of Mods for Grand Theft Auto 5 and the latest at the chopping block is the Liberty City Preservation Project Mod. The mod was just released to the public a few days ago and became famous for its integration of Liberty City from GTA IV into GTA 5. Let’s take a look at this unfortunate news and what it means for future Mods for Rockstar Games.

Liberty City Preservation Project Shut Down
The mod was a faithful recreation of Libert City and its seamless integration into GTA 5. The mod utilized assets and the entire map of GTA IV with a fully functional traffic & pedestrian system, a working subway along with open interiors and features. The Liberty City Preservation Project gained huge attention from fans of the games and the modding community, bringing the creation to limelight and Rockstar’s radar.
The modding team behind the mod, World Travel. Announced the discontinuation of the project on their Discord channel, after talking with Rockstar Games. The creators shared no further information as to why the mod has been taken down but every member of the gaming community knows the history of Rockstar and Take-Two interactive and mods for their games especially mods for GTA 5.
Fan outrage and backlash on Social Media

When the Liberty City mod was released and garnered much attention, many fans speculated the intervention of Rockstar (The told you so moment). Gaming Fans have taken to social media to show their disdain for such a beloved effort by the modding community. The same happened a few years back with the creators of FiveM, a role-playing mod for GTA 5.

It was clear that Rockstar would take action, as they have done with other mods in the past. However, playing the mod required users to own a copy of Grand Theft Auto 4, which challenges the speculation that the mod’s removal was linked to its impact on GTA 4 sales. That reasoning doesn’t seem to hold up in this case.
Summary

Rockstar and its parent company have always had a very aggressive approach when it comes to mods for their games. This combined with the power both companies hold has made it very tough for any good mods for their games to thrive for a longer period of time. The shutdown of the Liberty City Mod is a piece of very unfortunate news for fans of both titles, as to date there has been no launch of GTA 4 on modern platforms and fans have been stuck with the original release on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Unfortunately, the Liberty City Preservation Project Mod is no longer publicly available and it doesn’t seem like the project will see the light of day anytime soon. Likewise, there’s little hope that Rockstar or Take-Two will shift their stance soon. Best of Luck World Travels for your next project (just don’t mod any more Rockstar projects).
