PlayStation 5 Pro Preview & Features

Sony has finally unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro Mid-Gen upgrade for its four-year-old console, the PlayStation 5. Releasing on 7 November 2024, it will come for $699.99 and will feature significant upgrades to its GPU, RAM and power to render games at a much higher performance and graphic fidelity. Key Features 

The PlayStation 5 Pro brings three Major Key Features along with others that make it Sony’s most powerful console to date, nearly double the power of the PlayStation 5. 

The Big Three 

Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, the GPU will hold 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and will have 28% faster memory. Overall, this will enable the console to render gameplay 45% faster, making the experience much smoother.

Advanced Ray Tracing: Major upgradation are also being put in the PS 5 Pro’s ability to have much more powerful ray tracing, allowing double the rays to be cast and sometimes even triple the amount of the current PlayStation 5 

AI-Driven Upscaling: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) is also introduced. This AI-driven upscaling uses machine learning-based technology to provide super-sharp image clarity by adding more details and enhancing the visual fidelity of the PlayStation 5 Pro.

  • PS5 Pro Game Boost improves or stabilises performance for more than 8,500 backwards-compatible PS4 games that are playable on the PS5 Pro.
  • Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 Games: Improves resolution on select PS4 titles.
  • 2 TB SSD: Expanded Storage equals more space for games and smoother performance.
  • Wi-Fi 7: Supports the latest wireless technology in territories that support this standard.
  • VRR (Variable Refresh Rate): Helps reduce screen tearing and improves visual performance.
  • 8K Gaming: Supports gaming at 8K resolution, enhancing visual fidelity for supported titles.

Price & Additions 

The PlayStation 5 Pro will launch at $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (including tax) globally on November 7 2024. It will come with a DualSense wireless controller, and a pre-installed copy of Astro’s Playroom. The PS5 Pro is a disc-less console, but users can choose to buy the existing PS5 Disc Drive separately if they prefer physical media.
