The Mafia Series
The Mafia games are a series of Action-Adventure games in which players are thrust deep into the dark underbelly of Paradise in gruesome tales of the Mafia world. The franchise began in 2002 with Mafia 1, followed by two sequels and a 2020 remake of the original game. Mafia games are known for their Period settings, with each iteration set in a new location fictionally based on authentic American cities like Chicago, New York, and New Orleans.
The first two Mafia games were well received due to their unique gameplay and story, which offered something different to the players. However, Hangar 13 dropped the ball with their third game, Mafia 3. Hailed for its Voice Acting, story, and soundtrack, it received negative reviews from fans due to the many glitches and repetitive gameplay loops of its missions and open world.
Mafia: The Old Country
The teaser for Mafia: The Old Country is a cinematic rendered in the game engine was short and subtle, with background narration showing a glimpse of the setting and the vibe of the game, being very gritty and taking on a more narrative-based approach. Nick Bayne, President of Hangar 13, shared his enthusiasm for the series and took it back to its roots. He mentioned that after exploring different periods of organized crime in the first three Mafia games, Mafia: The Old Country will transport players back to the roots of the mob.
