The closing of the Game Awards 2024 gave us the teaser trailer of Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This trailer began with a cryptic quote “The suffering of generations must be endured to achieve our divine end” which pretty much took us to its theme of survival, suffering, and thrill. Shown to be set in outer space, the game follows the journey of Jordan, the protagonist. She is stranded on Sempiria, a distant, out-of-touch planet with no communication with the outer universe. The trailer had a very retro-futuristic vibe to it and it did not hint a lot about the genre of the game. What we knew so far was that the game is pure science fiction. But, some rumors hint towards the game delving into horror elements. Let us see why this yet-to-be-released Sci-fi game might have a spooky touch to it.
What might make Intergalactic a Fright Night Flex?
Naughty Dog’s fans have spotted various hints dropped by the Intergalactic contributors. These clues can be picked up from Story Artist and Illustrator Colin Lorimer’s Instagram post which talked about his contributions to Intergalactic. However, what caught the limelight were the tags included in this post, which brought heat to the game containing horror elements. While most of these tags were generic like Alien and Akira, it also mentioned genres like Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror. Not to mention that these terms point toward the big picture and aren’t very specific. But, the eerie energy that occupies outer space seems to back up the horror narrative.
Other artists contributing to the game include Tye Martinez, a master of concept art with Goth Vibe. Along with him, we have Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, the professionals who surely know how to create a chill-with-a-side-of-chills soundtrack.
On top of that, let us not forget that Naughty Dog is not new to the Horror genre. In Last of Us released back in 2020, we very well saw how they merged traditional horror tropes into its emotionally binding narrative. All these scant hints when glued together present some major tea into the game, of it containing some horror elements.

The release date of the game is yet unknown and not many hints have been dropped into the market yet. But, multiple contributors have hinted at the spooky elements the game might feature. As players venture through Sempiria, they might get to experience a horrific sci-fi with a haunting BGM, narrative, and creatives.
