Pokemon Z-A’s newest Mega Dimension DLC has paved the way for a new Z Mega evolution for fan-favourite Fighter type Pokemon Lucario. For starters, the Z Mega evolution mechanic itself was introduced very recently, and it has garnered positive reviews among the players. Z Mega evolved Pokemon’s can accurately obey the orders of their Trainers and channel skills faster, albeit using up Mega energy faster than normal.

Game Freak Released a Trailer to Showcase Mega Lucario Z in Pokemon Z-A
The developers of Pokemon Z-A, Game Freak took to their YouTube channel to announce the release of the Z Mega evolved version of Lucario, called “Mega Lucario Z”. The Fighting/Steel type Pokemon was revealed via a short trailer that showcased its aesthetics, movesets, and the grandiose aura emanating from within him.
Much like its Mega counterpart, the elements of Mega Lucario Z remain to be Fighting/Steel. Mega Lucario Z has a lot of shoes to fill in terms of expectations as the first Z Mega evolved Pokemon to launch in Pokemon Z-A. Suffice to say, the community has given mixed reactions.
Who is Mega Lucario Z in Pokemon Z-A?
Mega evolutions are not a new thing in Pokemon games. The trend of mega evolution of Pokemons started from Pokemon X and Pokemon Y back in 2013. Now, more than a decade later, a new type of mega evolution called “Z Mega Evolution” is happening in Pokemon Z-A: Mega Expansion DLC.
Lucario is the first Pokemon to receive this form of upgrade, and it should change the game for Lucario lovers. Players can evolve their Lucario into Mega Lucario Z by exposing it to the Mega Stone. Like any mega evolutions, the Z mega evolution also has a mega gauge that decreases rapidly with time. However, Z mega evolved Pokemons can dish out abilities faster than normal.
Mega Lucario Z unleashes his amassed aura and shrouds himself within it, granting himself increased defense, agility, and power. Mega Lucario Z is an aura type Pokemon, and the Z Mega evolution empowers it further. He can flexibly channel his aura into either a Shield for defensive purposes, or into a fist for offensive purposes. It makes sense as Lucario excels at close combat situations. His battle hardened fists now only get more dangerous with the Z Mega evolution.
Mega Lucario Z Stats in Pokemon Z-A
Sadly, Mega Lucario Z stats are not available as of now. However, players can check out the official PokeDex entry on the Pokemon Company’s site. From the information available, it’s clear that Mega Lucario Z presents more of a defensive playstyle compared to the previous Lucario’s offensive capabilities. The Pokemon Community is Not Buying Mega Lucario Z’s Design
After a long time, there seems to be a divide among the Pokemon community pertaining to a specific Pokemon’s design. Yes, we are talking about the model of Mega Lucario Z. The final trailer of Pokemon Z-A Mega Expansion showcased it. What was supposed to be a surprise entry in the roster of available rare Pokemons, turned out to be a disappointment for some players.
To understand why Mega Lucario Z’s model design is facing backlash, we need to give context about the hero itself. You see, Lucario is one of the more popular Pokemons in the franchise. It has been part of multiple promotions in the game. Lucario is also associated as one of the more “cooler-looking” Pokemons. Fans of Lucario took to reddit and X to voice their concerns over the “idol” design of Mega Lucario Z.
Players claim that Mega Lucario Z’s model looks like a weird blend between the Japanese pop singer Hatsune Miku and the Egyptian god Anubis. Although far from the truth, the similarities do exist. Some Reddit users noted that viewers might misinterpret glowing particle effects surrounding Lucario as “feminine” energy instead of his radiating aura.
