During the show, one announcement left the fans confused and skeptical, which was the reveal of Black Ops 7. Activision’s announcement of the next entry in the Call of Duty series, featuring a new storyline, characters, and gameplay mechanics. Reflecting growing dissatisfaction with the release of a Black Ops Game too soon.

Black Ops 7 Story, Setting, and Features

David Mason Black Ops 7

The New Black Ops 7 will take place during the year 2035, where the world is on the brink of Chaos. Players will follow the returning David Mason, Son of Alex Mason, in a psychological warfare plot. The event of Black Ops 7 will take place after BO2 and BO6, nearly 40 years after the story of BO6. Players will have to fight back against a new emerging threat that weaponizes fear above all else.

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 Story

The new campaign promises a solo or co-op story where players can join their friends. Utilise near-future weaponry in the multiplayer or descend into the heart of the Dark Aether. With the continuation of the next chapter in the Zombies Storyline.

So What’s New in Call of Duty Black Ops 7?

Black Ops 2

Apparently, from what we have seen so far, the answer is Nothing. There is nothing that will separate BO7 from the recent BO6 release, apart from the co-op campaign. Yes, the continuation of the Black Ops 2 story sounds promising, if done well. Fans weren’t exactly clamoring for a new Black Ops, and yet here we are. With Black Ops 7 arriving faster than anyone asked for. The inclusion of a Zombie Mode, which in itself is the continuation of the last, feels less like fan service and more like a recycled cash grab from Activision.

Much like Modern Warfare 3 (2023), BO7 already reeks of being more DLC than a full-fledged release. With only minor tweaks to the HUD and some surface-level changes, many fans see it as BO6.5 at best.

The reveal trailer’s comment section says it all: fans are disappointed, frustrated, and concerns grow for the franchise’s future. Another year, another COD. At this rate, we will hit Black Ops 10 before GTA VI sees the light of day.

But this much is confirmed that Black Ops 7 will release by the end of 2025 for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. It is also likely that the game will be a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass

Isn’t it too early for a Black Ops 7 Release?

The release of Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is far sooner than anyone anticipated, and it’s not looking good for the series’ future. A title release so early, where the last game is still 5 months out from its release, marks significant doubt in the evolution of the COD franchise. Fans are raining negative comments all over the internet with many taking to social media to post memes and poking fun at the game.
