Xbox has just announced that the Xbox Developer Direct will be taking place this year on January 23. The event will have a lot in store for gamers as it is set to showcase five games in total, three of them being official. There have been rumors floating around that one of these games can be Final Fantasy 16. However, Xbox hasn’t made anything clear yet.
The Xbox Developer Direct Event 2025
The event is set to take place on January 23 and is aiming to bring some great titles to the table. Out of the five games, the three games that are all set to be showcased are – South of Midnight, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 along with a mystery game. What mystery game? well, Xbox has kept that under the wraps as of now. What we do know however is that the game can be a Japanese Franchise with a long history.
Nate The Hate, the famous industry insider famous for leaking Nintendo-related news talked about the game releases at this event in a podcast. He mentioned the release of the Gears 1 and 2 remaster which is fully recreated in Unreal Engine 5. This took a lot of fans by surprise because up until now it has only been a rumor for years.
Final Fantasy 16 for Xbox
Square Enix is expected to appear at the event and showcase the Final Fantasy 16’s port to Xbox. Given the hint of the game being a Japanese franchise with a long history, it is much more likely that the rumors might be true. But! There is nothing certain as of now. Furthermore, back in October 2024, the producer Naoki Yoshida shared his desire to bring Final Fantasy 16 to Xbox.
Confirming the rumors, Lunatic Ignus also shared on his Twitter account that Final Fantasy 16 is going to be the fifth announcement at the event. He further mentioned that the fourth announcement as of now remains unclear.
The rumor of Final Fantasy 16 finally launching on Xbox if came true can cause mixed reactions amongst fans. The Xbox fans are eager for the launch but the PlayStation fans are finding it harder to believe that Final Fantasy might no longer be a Playstation exclusive.
