Squirrel With a Gun is exactly what it sounds like it is a game where you play as a squirrel, but one that uses guns. As the squirrel, you’re racing around, gathering acorns, defeating men in black suits, and even shooting down helicopters. All this while robbing unsuspecting humans to get more acorns.
Unique Mechanics Set Squirrel With a Gun Apart
In an interview, Dan DeEntremont-the developer of Squirrel With a Gun-clearly differentiated it from similar animal-based chaos games like Goat Simulator by explaining that it is more of a platformer at its heart. One of the most enjoyable things about the game is what happens with movement when shooting guns. The force pushes him back whenever he fires a weapon, sometimes into the air. Although these physics are extremely exaggerated, this mechanic is at the core of the gameplay; it requires creative solutions that make it much fun to play the platformer.
Different Guns and Platforming Obstacles
There are different guns that differ in use. A submachine gun can lift the squirrel to fly; a rocket launcher propels it to fly even higher, while others, like the grenade launcher, are not very good for that. This makes the platforming challenges more varied and lets the player get into impossible places.
Completing these challenges rewards the squirrel with acorns, some of which are rare Golden Acorns. Additionally, some of the challenges involve helping humans in and around the neighborhood. Of course, the squirrel can rob those humans for acorns if it so chooses as well. Players may be rewarded in exchange for their good deeds with other compensations or items.
Action-Packed Battles and Fun Features
DeEntremont teased that players will face plenty of enemies, from agents to tanks to helicopters. Animal chaos game fans are going to love the action-packed battles. There is also cutscene, boss fight, and a loose storyline to keep things interesting.
Why Does the Squirrel Have a Gun?
1. The Story Behind the Chaos
The adventure begins when the squirrel meets an underground bunker and takes a mysterious object resembling a Golden Acorn. As a squirrel, he steals the object. The agents then chase after him to reclaim their significant item. DeEntremont suggested that other Golden Acorns in the game could be special items too. However, for the squirrel, all these acorns are shiny and good to be collected. These are collectibles, but they encourage exploration and provide the agents with a reason to hunt the squirrel down.
2. Comedy and Mayhem in Every Frame
The game fits right in with the bunch of other Animal Chaos titles. A scene in particular has the squirrel pushing an agent’s head into the barrel of a gun. Another wild feature DeEntremont discussed is the “cowboy squirrels.” He also depicted a “bomb suit” that lets the squirrel run through minefields without getting hurt, making the squirrel ragdoll comically as it goes. Although full of humor, this game has more structure and story than most others that fit into this genre.
3. A New Twirl in the Animal Mayhem Genre
With its platforming mechanics and fun, chaotic gameplay, Squirrel With a Gun could bring a new spin to this animal mayhem genre. The emphasis on movement and exploration is unique and makes players experience an engaging kind of game that falls into the new classification of game genres.
